Play with friend

Hello guys, Im new here and i need to ask a question:
I need some help to play MP with a friend in GMod, the only problem is that if I try to create a multiplayer game, he can't join to that. We have had both forwarded ports on our routers, and we tried with the console way (sv_lan 0, connect etc..), but it didn't worked.
Ive searched a lot for a solution on google, but i found nothing, so i hope you'll be more helpful than others.

EDIT: we are not in LAN, or i wouldnt ask anything

Seeing as it's just for you and your friends, look for Hamachi. It makes the Internet think your on LAN so you can play together.
