Would you play DayZ in GMOD done proper? Actual challenging zombies. Character Customization Vehicles Vehicle repairing Actual medical system. Inventory system similar to resident evil. Cooking. A large map. (Segment the map on top of each other, like in layers) Weapons with attachments. Actual hidden loot around the map. You get the point. It's a gamemode I'm considering going through with. I laid down the plans and basic foundation for it, however I'm unsure if enough people are interested in this because DayZ /does/ exist as a separate game. Opinions?
Phoenixf129 is currently running a server for Gmod Day-Z and it is extremely popular. Also seems like a project you'd learn a lot from, so I'd say go for it. Gmod users seem to like stuff that's recognizable.

I was thinking of doing things differently such as "homemade" vehicles per say, instead of a plane, an airboat attached with wings that can fly, has turrets, etc but I'm not sure about all that, haha. I think it would be nice instead of having highly militarized planes. Gives it more of a HL2 feeling too.
A recommendation would be add objectives for players, give them something to slowly work towards
A recommendation would be add objectives for players, give them something to slowly work towards
What type of objectives would they be? Would it be to go from point A to point B, delivery missions? I'm trying to figure out what you could do in a less-than-linear "sandbox" per say
they must create a ballpit from a single piece of wood and a nail dashcon could do it 10/10
Maybe like something so that if they all collaborate they can build it and once they build it they could fight over who owns it.
Maybe like something so that if they all collaborate they can build it and once they build it they could fight over who owns it.
If I go off of that: What I can think of is a "The Forest" like building system where they have to add wood etc to have it built. That way players can all contribute to the overall structure and have it built. then them fighting over it all depends on them.. err. yeah.
I have a nice map I downloaded somewhere if you're interested to check it out pm me.

You don't want them to build the end goal item and that's it. If that was the case everyone who built it would just stop playing and you'd have to reset that end goal.
Maps stacked up in layers don't really work too good.
To be honest there doesn't seem to be "any" good maps in gmod that suit a gamemode like this.
Yes there is, I downloaded a map from another server it's perfectly themed.
Maps stacked up in layers don't really work too good.
May I ask why? If you do something similar to "fog walls" per say, in Dark Souls.
To be honest there doesn't seem to be "any" good maps in gmod that suit a gamemode like this.
Some of the RP maps are good, but of course they're not /that/ large.
I have a map downloaded somewhere called dz_chernarus it has a really nice theme with the gamemode.
I have a map downloaded somewhere called dz_chernarus it has a really nice theme with the gamemode.
Except that map is actually rp_pripyat..
Except that map is actually rp_pripyat..
Yes, because Can't Stand Idiots are doing all they can to get players on their DayZ, even by renaming publicly released maps as to trick people into thinking it's made by them.
Xavier being butthurt cos he cant code and his server lags again. Inb4 DDOS
Am I the only one getting sick of every game ever having some form of dayz in it
Xavier being butthurt cos he cant code and his server lags again. Inb4 DDOS
Assuming "Xavier" is Phoenix, I see nowhere on CSI crediting the person that made the map.
rip sourcecraft's world generation .dll's and make it look like minecraft, with ballpits ofc. "7 Days to Dashcon DayZ"
Assuming "Xavier" is Phoenix, I see nowhere on CSI crediting the person that made the map.
Xavier... isn't Phoenix. Xavier is the owner of a server using stolen ocrp code sold to them by a skiddyripper called Fudsine. Whos now trying to greenlight a game called arcanus island using default cryengine models and textures.
I don't have Arma 2. So yes.
To put it simply: No. DayZ has never interested me in the first place.
