• Content Auto-Disable Due to New Update

Among the seemingly endless problems caused by the new updates, another severe problem, one I've experienced and have seen throughout the Steam Support forums, is a 'content auto-disable' caused by the newest updates. What does this do? If you've started your game after the new update, you may have noticed most of your game content is disabled in the extensions menu. So? I'll just re-enable them. Not that easy. Garry's Mod is completely unresponsive to content enabling. Enabling CS:S, TF2, Portal, etc. content, then restarting the game, does nothing: the content packs remain unticked in the extensions menu. Any maps or add-ons using any content are now defunct, as the content cannot be enabled. I've heard rumour that by starting up each game, then Garry's Mod, will make them work, but this sounds both extremely tedious and inefficient, and, possibly, false. So is there any sollution to the recent content disabling caused by this series of "wonderful" updates?
My CS:S content did not work, I ran CS:S once and it worked then. It's solid advice.
I played it with a friend for the first time, so we were quite slow and died some times etc. took us 6h and about 13min, its very possible in 4 hours.
I just read Garry's news post. Apparently, he meant for the auto content disable so 'games will have to be fully downloaded to work'. Why the fuck would you do this? Instead of needing, for example, about 1 gig of space for both EP1 and EP2, now I have to fully install them BOTH just to use the content?
As if it isn't fully downloaded and you try to use content, there could be problems?
Confirmed, L4d and L4d 2 weren't working, i reran them both and they mount again.
The problem Cloud is that, for example, pre-update, you only needed 115mb of space to mount CS:S. Now, I have to download the entire 2.7 gig game just to use its content in Garry's Mod. It's a totally pointless feature to force you to download the entire game.
I played l4d2 last night in order to get the content mounted and it worked. I try again today and now it tells me I need to launch the game again despite there not being a l4d2 update that would give me a proper need to update the game.

Its going to get annoying to keep playing L4D and L4D2 just to get it to work. It should be a simple check to see if the file exists, not check if you last ran the game since you last restarted steam.

Episode 2 is a whopping 5GB, and I only have 10GB left. I shouldn't have to kill my hard drive to use a few textures.
What's worse is that Garry doesn't even give a good reason for this. He even states himself that "Steam doesn't have this sort of feature, so I had to freestyle it." Why the fuck do we even need the feature in the first place? It can't be due to the content not working, since mounted games worked fine before the update, and it can't be because of pirating games because even Steam doesn't care, so why would Garry care?

FAILLLLLLLLL update no need this is so gay 5gig for one game then 2.7gig for another 1.9gig for yet another it will take atleast 3 months for me to get my gmod back up to date. He should just remove it. (he broke one of the server is played on and donated $20 to now if they turn it on it crashes the host's internet because of the latest update. This is the issue and the gameing community take a look on how much people play on it: http://www.exiledservers.net/showthread.php?t=4962 P.S: Not the first time update broke it down, it broke it for 2 months.
Yeah it obviously isn't working. I'll stop trying to check whether it's installed - since it doesn't seem to have helped people with slow startup times anyway.
Looks like will be reverted in next update.
Looks like will be reverted in next update.
Thank goodness. It's getting annoying to run both L4Ds when restarting steam.
