Is there an RP gamemode that's not as random/glitchy as DarkRP but not as serious as Clockwork/Nutscript? Maybe it could have weapon lowering, but you don't walk at 0.1 miles per hour... IDK.
Try out something else besides rp. Give other gamemodes a chance.

I already have servers for TTT, Sandbox, TDM, The Hunt etc. but can I please just have my question answered? :3
You could always code a custom nutscript gamemode. Modify the rules amd code to fit your in between needs

DarkRP is impossible as SeriousRP, but I guess if he doesnt want to make his own RP then DarkRP is his only shot.
You could always try to bring back BuildRP...
Applejack by Lexi
my fav rp gamemode of all time, too bad it's currently broken
there IS a community hosting it right now, just message me if you want to know what it is
CityRP and EVORP host RP08/Cider/Applejack, and they tend to be alright. I'd recommend just coding your own gamemode or attempting to get a key for ArcheAge though.

wait what
uhm what is the relevance
or am i missing some joke here

The joke is that I always complain about how RP servers lack any form of economic structure or truthful RP. ArcheAge has all of those.

Thanks for reminding me of BuildRP. I'm going to make a BuildRP server then.

RP can be fun if you make it fun. I was hosting a server with my friends today, and we were running HL2RP. Instead of being super strict and srs and spending a month "developing your character" we just set up different scenarios and mini-events and had fun with it, while it still being somewhat serious role-play. As for public servers, I guess not everyone can have the same mindset and it's generally harder to control such things, but like Zachy said nutscript is highly customizable and you could try to get a mix of what you're looking for.
I would like to remind people that darkrp isn't the problem, it is the player-base. Your player-base determines how your gamemode will be.
This being said if you want something in between it is not so much on what the gamemode is but how your player-base is. If you have a player-base that wants the same idea that you have in mind then you can achieve it.

That's true but there are ways of creating scenarios with a script such that players who just want to mess around and DM will get bored because they have to work for their guns first (for example), then they leave your server alone and go and play DarkRP - while those that do want to play seriously will then hopefully stick around on your own server.

The problem then arises with freedom. Adding to many rules/scenarios can make the player feel restricted.
Also this doesn't really disprove my point. Someone can create those same scenarios that are used in another gamemode for darkrp.
This is why I said that it heavily depends on your player base more then your gamemode you pick.
