• Gmod 13 takes up too much ******* processing power.

No, I'm not asking for help, I'm simply stating something, so don't ban me. Seriously, what is even up with Gmod 13's CPU usage? I've complained before about how "the loading times are too long" but I can just alt-tab and do other stuff to pass the time while it's loading, right? NO. Gmod 13 takes up so much processing power, my entire computer nearly freezes when it's loading. And before you tell me to get a better PC, why should I? This never happened back when I played Gmod 12 on this same PC. Why does Gmod 13 take up so much more space? Let this sink in for a minute: Crysis runs better than Gmod 13. Did it sink in yet? Source is the most stable engine I've ever played on, yet it somehow got completely botched in Gmod 13, which is possibly the most unstable game I've ever played. Why? Was this not optimized at ALL? Dear Garry, not everyone has your computer. So could you please optimize the game for us a little bit? -Sincerely everyone who can't afford a brand new computer every year.
I feel your pain, I tried to play GMod on a potato too and it just didn't work!
This is kinda true actually, gmod does have pretty bad performance because he disabled the use of multi-core CPUs. But uhh yeah, I wish he'd revert it but I doubt he will.

My only complaint is if I'm in-map, sometimes Gmod "sticks" to my screen if I try to completely close it. No it's no longer running at that point, and yes I checked task manager on my second screen for the HL2.exe process...
If you're in fullscreen, swap to window mode. The game seems to have a hissyfit if you tab while loading otherwise.
Have you tried rebooting windows 98?
I know how you feel!! I always keep ****************************** crashing too!
Mmmm gmod 13 is such a unstable piece of shit and what does garry go and do, Make a new game and basically ignore gmod cause fuck logic lets not fix our current game...
Mmmm gmod 13 is such a unstable piece of shit and what does garry go and do, Make a new game and basically ignore gmod cause fuck logic lets not fix our current game...
I've never crashed on stock gmod in 6 years. After you get 3rd party adding then it starts lagging. Don't blame Garry for the shitty work of others.
Have you tried rebooting windows 98?
I believe you meant to say WindowsMe
Garry's Mod doesn't crash on me, but it would be nice if sometime in the future we could see some optimizations for the sake of high detail maps and the like. I can't remember exactly what Garry said about it, but multi-core rendering is very much missed within the mapping and building communities.
Most crashes are caused by Garry's Mod physics in sandbox based game modes. At the same time it's the shitty addons people code that mess with the physics which cause a large majority of those crashes.

The game works perfectly fine, try booting it into sandbox without any addons, works like a dream. It's when you add poorly done third party addons that problems arise.

GM13 increased loading speeds for me, used to take me 20-30 seconds in GM12!

Wire, all TDM Cars, M9K packs, Mad Cow, misc addons such as accuracy tool, weight, stacker, etc etc etc. [T]http://share.bybservers.co.uk/addons_2014-01-14_21-15-38.png[/T] Still from windows to running around in 34 seconds, I do not understand peoples slow loading times :s

I think the optimisation was to come at the end of what was a long period of updating and fixing. It would appear the events that occurred since the last major update (baby & rust) have kind of put a halt to the proceedings.
I'm really fucking tired of people say "It can run crysis" to show how "fucking amazing" their PC is he hasn't even posted his specs without any addons it should run really good unless you have a shit PC
you may have a good computer, with an ssd, or a fast hard drive thats reguaraly defragged. many people do not have amazing computers, and only a few know how to take care of them
I do have a good PC with a old ish SSD, however I loaded under 1m without the ssd. I don't think I've defragged my own HDD in years, good computer though and clean operating system yea. The point on loading times is that gmod is gmod, it has to load a LOT of crap.
Personally, lag isn't too awful on my side and my computer isn't exactly 'top notch'. I'd just check how many and what addons you have, some are naturally going to drain performance more than others. though the thing that gets me is that every time I close the game, it doesn't really close. it crashes itself
I really dislike the fact Awesomium (html stuff) is being massively over-used in GMod. It's literally even being used for the entire main menu. That's gotta be bad for performance surely.
you may have a good computer, with an ssd, or a fast hard drive thats reguaraly defragged. many people do not have amazing computers, and only a few know how to take care of them
I've got a shite computer with an average rate of reads per minute on my hard drive (7200), hardly defrag, and over a hundred addons. I load into Garry's Mod in about 30 seconds.

I blame steam, once I set it to remain offline it runs a lot better tho can't use the addons from workshop sometimes oh well. But that is just me.

also "-Sincerely everyone who can't afford a brand new computer every year." gmod is on an engine from 2004... every year? what? :v: you'd only have to, at best, update the CPU or maybe the GPU every 3 years or so.
Yep, for me too. I always have to ctrl-alt-delete my way out of the game. [editline]15th January 2014[/editline] actually, never mind [t]http://facepunch.com/fp/browser/windows-old.gif[/t] this explains everything, you're using XP (Unless there is a flagdog error). It's insanely outdated and is like, 5 times more prone to getting hacked, no longer supported. http://pcpartpicker.com/parts/os/ go get an upgrade, that's why gmod is running bad. It's not the game, its your PC. No, you don't need to get a "Brand new pc" either, don't worry.
