GARRY'S MOD APPLICATION ERROR: Need Resolution ASAP
11 replies, posted
Hey, lately I've been getting an application error when starting a game, be it singleplayer or multiplayer.
The error message reads;
Garry's Mod: hl2.exe - Application Error
The instruction at "0x13e35bd" referenced memory at "0x0d43b018". The memory could not be "read"
Click on OK to terminate the program
I've been a lurker on facepunch for about 5 years and i've never really had any problems with Gmod, at all. Any help would be so very much appreciated.
Below is an image just for the sake of clarity :(

The error you got I believe means that you are getting a memory problem or even maybe runing out of memory. Have you tried to drop the resolution or lower any settings?
System Specs?
This error appears when you don't have enough memory, Physical and/or Virtual.
did you buy it?

Yeah, I've tried lowest settings and lowest resolution, even uninstalling all add-ons and a fresh install.
System Specs?

Well, the only questionable piece on my system would be the 64MB NVidia Quadro4 550 XGL (I'm using a small form factor at the moment), but GMod worked for a long time on this same system before that ?

Yes.
I haven't played for a while though, maybe one of the source engine updates broke it, I heard there have been some changes to the rendering or somethin' ???
What is your paging file set to?

I don't know what that is man, well I know what it is, but not exactly, what is it and how do I configure it ?
Okay.
If you are using Windows XP you right-click on My Computer and go to Properties then go to the "Advanced" tab
If you are using Windows Vista/7 right-click on Computer and go to Properties then click on "Advanced System Settings" (You will need administrative access for this)
From this point it's the same for XP and Vista/7
Click on the Settings button under "Performance" and then go under the Advanced tab. At the bottom there will be a "Virtual Memory" section.
Next to "Total Paging File for all drives" is a value in MB.
I would also like to know your System Specs. If you do not know what they are use Speccy (you can :google: it)

It means an instruction at the memory-position 0x13e35bd of the application (GMod) tried to read at the memory-position 0x0d43b018 where it wasn't allowed to read. In most cases, it's due to bug in a program and not because of your memory being faulty and never because of you running out of memory.
My suggestion regarding the topic is, you have too much (maybe even faulty) addons installed.

No addons installed, deleted them all and tried a fresh install too...
Are you sure that it's not due to any recent updates in the way graphics are handled in game? After all, I only have a 64mb Small FF on the go at the moment, although I *have* played Gmod 10 in the past :S

P.S I'm also running GMod from an external HDD, might have something to do with it, might not ?
UPDATE:
Managed to play for a few minutes on the map gm_minecraft just now, had an application error after firing an RPG at one of the trees...
UPDATE NO. 2:
Can play on gm_minecraft and gm_construct but whenever something heavy happens like dying via explosion, firing RPG or spawing lots of props I get the application error. Think this might be a problem with my CPU or RAM ? This is really weird.
It's probably because of your low amount of system memory. You probably run out of memory and your game crashes (or fails to start at all). You should probably have around 2GB of RAM to play, and close all your pther applications before playing.
The thing is I could run GMod fine a couple years ago... I'm just wondering why I can't seem to run it now, I mean I can run sometimes, just when I fire the rocket launcher or die then the game crashes...
