[release]Hey there! In addition to our DarkRP server and our NavalRP server, Triton Gaming now has a Phase Four server! This server will be completely casual, however there will be rules you need to follow! We currently play on the map 'rp_outercanals'. At the risk of people saying, "Hey! Yer a big fat PHONY!", I have changed the map to 'rp_outercanals'. I think it's a great map, and it definitely is better for Phase Four than 'rp_c18_v1'. I have setup FastDL, though I have no idea if I did so correctly. (I'm used to it being automatic in the TCAdmin menu.) So, if the download for the map takes too long when you try to join the server, here's the download link: http://www.garrysmod.org/downloads/?a=view&id=123495
Please use this content pack if you have never played Phase Four before. (Default textures, and what-not.) http://www.mediafire.com/?l476m6img2lvodq[/release]

I am looking for a coder to help with the server as I have no Lua coding experience. Said coder would receive the title of 'Coder', SuperAdmin flags, and FTP Access to the server. I do not plan to pay for any coder, but rather am hoping to get somebody who would be happy just being part of the community. Obviously the coder needs some experience with OpenAura/PhaseFour. At the very least the coder needs to have an idea on what to do, ie; no beginner coders if they have no experience with OpenAura/PhaseFour, more experienced coders welcome despite having no OpenAura experience. We are also looking for members of the staff team; said members will be inspected and recruited by myself. You can 'apply', so-to-speak, however there is no current application (our forums are being re-formatted with I.P. Board) so you will merely mention to me that you think you have what it takes and I'll see how you behave on the server and what-not.
[/release]
[release]Rules:
1. Do not RDM! (Random Death Match.)
2. Do not break NLR, which lasts five minutes. (New Life Rule: You forget information from your previous life permanently, such as who killed you or if you wanted to kill somebody, and you may not go to the area in which you died until five minutes have passed.)
3. Do not Metagame. (Using Out-Of-Character information In-Character.)
4. Respect other players, an especially the administration team.
5. Do not 'minge'. (Acting like a complete idiot or trolling.)
6. Going AFK while in-game is your own risk.
7. Wealthier characters may not rob 'beginners', regardless of what gear they wear. (If they have better gear stored, and are just trying to get away with robbing.)
8. 'Wars' between factions must be confirmed by a member of leader status on both sides. (No declaring war on a faction without their leader(s) accepting the war.)
9. Microphone chat is strictly Out-Of-Character.

[release]Server Information:
IP Address: 178.239.163.45:27019
Current Map: rp_outercanals
Slots: 18 (Upgradable if popular.)

Devul - Administrator

[release]Note:
I've been having an issue with the server appearing on the server list, so if necessary use the console-command: connect "server IP"
[/release]
I am very open to constructive criticism, however I'd like you to keep it as un-insulting as possible!
You can also give in-game suggestions, such as placements of safeboxes, opposed to criticism regarding the management of the server.
Rule two I think could be changed to where it lasts forever. Five minutes seems like people would just abuse that. For example, let's say someone gets kidnapped and dragged off into a room where a faction hides out. He sees where he is and gets shot in the head. So he goes back five minutes later with a bunch of his buddies to revenge his death and steal their items. Then the other guys who originally killed the first guy, would go back and do the same. Hence, making the current five minute new life rule a pretty bad one.
Edit: And one other thing you should change is the community name. It's been used before by some DarkDM server. Of course, that's up to you. If it were me I would take time and think of something creative instead of <insertrandomadjectivehere>RP or <insertrandomadjectivehere>Gaming. I just think it would make you stand out more.
This is part of a community known as CreationRP. And the NLR portion of being five minutes means you cannot go into that area for five minutes. No matter what time limit you 'forget' what happened there prior to your death.

Ah. You made it sound like in the OP that they would only forget anything that happened to them for five minutes.
Also, I know this is off-topic. But 2AM went to shit because 1337 thought it would be a cool "donation" to give the server away to some random asshats. We no longer have any authority. So yeah. Off-topic time ending now.

Rewrote the phrasing. How's that?
*Edit*
For some reason I can't 'Go Advanced' and change the topic's name, but apparently we're 'Triton Gaming' now.

Yes, that's much better.
Update: I changed the map. Remember folks, criticizing is fine but do so nicely. (You can still give me pointers without acting like an ass!)
**Edited**
Added a request for a coder, and separated some text to lower the bulk.
Does this server have any problem with factions ruling over everyone and stealling everything? Because on one phase four server I was on. This one faction would just fucking camp the nexus and snipe everyone that walked into the plaza and took everything. This was on C18.
Were you on El1te Archangel's server?
At any rate, the answer is no. I have heightened the amount it costs to create a faction, and said factions will be kept on a tight leash. Plus, we have no members as nobody wants to join. There are no 'factions', at-the-moment. I hope you'll join, though!
I joined and didnt have any phase four models as a recently cleaned my addons and every model and texture for it was missing. I don't think your fastdl works for first-time phase four players. At any rate, do you have a link to a content pack I could download?
I'll have to find one, but FastDL should be working.
I joined and all the models and textures were missing, it downloaded stuff, but it didnt apply for some reason.
I have no idea; added a content pack for those of you having issues.
I am also in urgent need of a coder; I am experiencing several issues that I cannot fix due to a lack of Lua knowledge. I also need a playerbase!
Come on guys! Come play!
Is nobody even interested in joining? :(
I have suggestions on how to get a larger playerbase.
Well then please, share them with me.
Well then please, share them with me.
• Try to find a new Gamemode: OpenAura isn't a fantastic thing to use, it does have it's benefits, but it all depends on how you use it. Tiramisu is a free RP gamemode that is very desirable, and very customizable. It is also easy to use, especially if you have previous experience working with the Tiramisu Schemas. (I do)
• Try not to make another RP: If you already have 2 other RP servers, assuming they are popular, a third RP with a new theme isn't exactly going to attract many people. Spacebuild, build, and other Fretta, are examples of popular alternatives.
• If you are steadfast on the RP gamemode, consider making the theme of the server unique: People get tired of City Life RP, and DarkDM. Try to make your server unique. HL2 with new items is not unique. For instance, try to make a tribal RP based in ancient Europe or Africa. Maybe a Roman RP. Just break the mold a bit. (With Tiramisu's schema system, this can be done, but more models will be needed)
• Choose a unique and new map: This speaks for itself. Find a map that looks nice, is optimized well, and fits the theme.
• Update the server frequently and have server events: People love when you spice things up with a roleplayed event. Maybe one day the Emperor's daughter is kidnapped by a rival tribe of Gauls? Players would team up to take out the enemy tribe and save the daughter. Offer rewards to successful players, such as unique items, titles, or financial compensation.
• Emphasis on building: It is common for servers to use maps with a shit ton of prebuilt buildings. This is not always a bad thing, but allowing players to build their own homes, and other things, (siege equipment, vendor stalls) really allows for immersion.
• Customization!: Allow users to change looks, and definitions of their players. Strict job restrictions close off individuality, allow players to make a unique feel and job for their character. The less jobs the better!
• HUDs ruin immersion: Large HUDS subtract from gameplay, put emphasis on smaller HUDS, and a clean, sleek GUI.
• Combat isn't a bad thing!: A big mistake servers make is trying to avoid combat through passive RP. This fails, because over time, passive RP gets boring, and DM makes it fun for some individuals. Instead of trying to shove the elephant of combat in a closet, embrace it and control it as part of the server.
• Offer veteran players benefits without harming newbies: Allowing long time players custom titles or clothing really makes people want to stay longer.
• Put effort in and don't be a prick ingame.
That is a short version, I can clarify on tons of things if needed. Biggest fix: Change the gamemode, map, and try to make it unique. (Tribal and Roman are great new ideas)
I like your suggestions, but a lot of them seem pointed towards DarkRP, such as 'jobs', which is unfortunately irrelevant. As for some other stuff, like I've said in earlier posts, I have no coding experience. How exactly can I do anything with GMod without that? While I did plan on events, this is casual roleplay, not serious, meaning events would be less inclined to having some sort of 'canonical' effect. As for Tiramisu, I played around with it on my server once and could not do much. I have absolutely no idea how to create schemas for it, and from what I saw it was closer to a skeleton than anything. Without coding for it, it has no potential. I do put in effort, which should be clear based off of the OP and other posts; I'm not another blabbering ten year old creating a DarkRP server for the sole purpose of having control. In summary, almost none of your tips can be implemented without coding experience, of which I have none. Go find me a coder, and we'll see what we can add. Thanks for the advice, though temporarily (I hope) useless (almost), it was nice.

Well you're lucky, because I've worked with Tiramisu enough to give it a shot. I won't have a shit ton of free time, and you'll need to set up the server with Tiramisu before I can start with it, but I can try. Also, most of my suggestions were pointed towards any RP, since all of those pertain to any RP gamemode.
I appreciate the help, but I'm not exactly willing to switch to Tiramisu right off the bat. From what I know about frameworks and schemas, you shouldn't really require me to install Tiramisu as you apparently know how to code for it and what to do. I also don't really want to as I have no idea what you're going to make; I don't like just any RP 'type'. Perhaps if you could PM me more details, and what you could implement, we can get started. For now, however, I really enjoy Phase Four and would like to keep it on that.

I don't want to sound like a dick, but if you stick with Phase Four, your server is never going to see any action.
What action are you referring to? I strictly pointed out that this was Casual RP, due to the fact that Phase Four really is just faction wars and chit-chat (strongly due to its functions); it lacks the potential to be serious. I like the shootouts, performing in a squad (for raids and what-not), and the ability to get armor and further yourself in the raging world of Phase Four.
I mean, action in the phrase that not many are going to join the server. There are ton of other, more populated places, to find Deathmatch in RP.
Well describe to me what you can make with Tiramisu in regards to what I said I like and what you know about Phase Four. (I'm really into the whole idea behind Phase Four; being able to get armors that provide different abilities and what-not, and boosting your own attributes through rigorous training or chemical injection.)

(Rigorous training==button pressing and free time) But to tell the truth, nothing. You want what's already been done. You want the exact same as every other Phase Four out there, and other people will flock to the more populated ones. There's not many ways to change it up, P4 is just not meant for that sort of thing. Tiramisu can do all of what you said, it would just take a while. But even then, it's Tiramisu in P4 clothing. So unless you are willing to do something entirely new, you won't get much traffic.
I really made the server for what I like, not having a bunch of players. But tell me, besides (this is strictly my opinion, mind you) herp-derp Indian tribes and what-not, what has not been done? And can I not simply do something that's rarely done, such as a Tiramisu based 'mini-Epidemic'?
Here is a list of Uncommon, Unused, or Rare gamemodes, this list is known as an UUR, and is used to determine smart gamemode choices for RP servers:
• Victorian Era
• 1950s Gangsters
• Post Apocalyptic*
• Retro 80s
• Ancient Tribes
• Roman Europe
• Futuristic Space*
• Oriental Town
• High Fantasy
• World War III
• American Civil War
• American Revolution
• Steam Punk
• Virtual World
• Abandoned Town
• Neolithic Revolution
• Far Future Space
• Old Wild West
• American Expansion
• WWI
* denotes very common gamemodes.
Just a few.
If they're rare, how are they very common?
At any rate, I rarely see post apocalyptic RP or good zombie survival RP.
I would LOVE something like one of those two, particularly post apocalyptic. However, that would definitely be a more serious RP atmosphere. (Which I'm fine with, of course!)
Please, please tell me you can do something like that; I'd be very grateful and you'd earn the 'Coder' status and what-not mentioned in the OP. (My fail attempts to entice you to help me.)

You live under a rock, I have decided. Zombie Roleplay, and Post Apoc are probably the second most common next to City RP. Right next to those three is futuristic.
Pardon me for finding roleplaying as a tribesman, a gladiator, or some passive only roleplaying themes a bit boring/stupid.
And I doubt many other people would find them as attractive as you do.
