After the spiraling success of my [URL="http://www.facepunch.com/threads/1108466-Serious-Roleplay-Server-GoldRP"]previous server[/URL] I am thinking of expanding the horizon. I am wondering between a No-Addons Vanilla Build Server, A somewhat modded TTT or a Floodmod 2 server. And no, I am not hosting another RP and I don't care which gamemode, I already have one.
So, which one would you recommend?
DarkDM isn't roleplay, so get a roleplay server. :v You know, a real one?

From my previous experience I would recommend Floodmod 2 server. Its the best server to stop minges coming on and annoying everyone yet still have some action with the shooting side :)
DarkRP always got on my nerves as receiving so many notifications "Prop blocking", "Minges here please help", "this guy got 20 guys to join and they're all spamming". Which can get extremely competitive with other servers on trying to stay minge free, while if no admins are around on Floodmod 2 your gamers can happily play along :)
Floodmod 2 is also a really entertaining gamemode and a very enjoyable one to customise.

Thanks, Ive played the original Flood mod, I was just wondering from feedback, as obviously you can't test an externally-reliant MySQL gamemode in singleplayer. Still, I will wait a little while to see what other people have to say.

This will enable you to test game modes with MySQL as well as testing game modes to there full extend and not just using Garry's Mod multiplayer feature as gamemodes don't always run correctly on it.

TechieGee I agree darkrp can get extremely messy I think this is something you should take up with falco himself though.. he releases the SVN. Maybe he would be willing to add a better system to the next release.

DarkRP isn't a bad gamemode, most of the DarkRP players however, are idiots. The player base makes the gamemode look bad, that doesn't mean the gamemode itself is bad.
I personally would find a gamemode that isn't used that often for your server. The problem with Garry's Mod servers these days is that they're either running TTT, RP, or some other over used gamemode. Experiment with your server, see what players like the most and what they don't like. Eventually you might get a unique gamemode that people like.

Thanks for the help, but I won't go as far as to do dedicated servers on it. Id rather maybe get a test server and try there.
Try a fixed copy of old school GmodRP, and on a classic map, like Hometown_1999

While most of us old-timers and don't look at my registration date know that that is classic and fun, it would be empty. Plus, I want to host something different than RP and I have made that abundantly clear in the OP.

I would say use a gamemode nobody else really uses. Floodmod is wonderful, but there aren't many servers.
Also, don't use DarkRP, pure shit. Don't use Fortwars either, yet another shit script.

May I suggest Stranded? Great gamemode, I really miss it.
Stranded, Floodmod, that's about it.
I recommend getting a build server. No PvP, it's a lot slower paced and relaxing compared to roleplay. And you can should also get a ventrillo, mumble or teamspeak with it. That will make it perfect.
And yes I do host servers and I am willing to give you a deal so PM me if your interested

I haven't found a good Build RP. Those were the shit back in GMOD 9. But stranded is still amazing.

Well, If I do decide on a Sandbox, there is going to be no PvP, only crowbars for mini-games people make. Godmode on, of course.
One of my options is to just make a gm_construct server, put an admin mod on it and that's it. Simple, easy, original. Its sort of sad that an unmodded server is much more original than a modded one these days.
If your going to use an admin mod I recommend evolve. It's simple, slick and efficient and it has a great scoreboard which will tell players who's admin.
And it's really easy to add different ranks which I doubt you would need but if that is the case. It is there.
Evolve has it's problems....

But if you are going to put up a vanilla Sandbox, you should then make it somewhat original from other servers.
Get an active admin team, hold some sorts of "competitions", like best moving contraption, or the best house, something like that. Having no additional tools like smart-snap or easy precision gives more to the competition. Reward players for their victories, make a leaderboard of most active players, etc.

Well, my current admin team is comprised of veterans of my old no-addons server, so I think they'll do just fine. I will need to do some recruiting though, I want to administrate both servers.
And yes, if I pick sandbox, there will be bi-weekly competitions, winner gets free Respected. Also, it does not have any tools, in fact noclip is not enabled for non-donators and non-admins, because people abuse it, adds more reasons to be respected and adds to the creativity of some players.
The reason is, we want people to adapt, be creative and witty.
Yes but with evolve they have to be on the server for you to demote them :3
