• Garry's Mod Split-screen -How To-

One day,i was surfing on the web, then I saw this "Sven Co-op Split-screen" link and instructions how to do it: http://am.half-lifecreations.com/forums/index.php?topic=479.0 It works on every hl1-engine game and mod.... Then...I thought... open up hl1,then process explorer..delete the mutex file, run another hl1...after that create a local server,on the other exe type in the console connect -ipadress-,download auto window manager.Set the two windows to both have input...connect a joystick...well,if hl1 has that mutex, then surely i can do it in hl2... I came to my friends house with my joystick,we set the things up and BOOM! we spent an hour playing together... It's simple to do that,just...that hl2 has more mutex files then hl1 soooo....the mutex files are: Mutant \Sessions\1\BaseNamedObjects\ValvePlatformWaitMutex Mutant \Sessions\1\BaseNamedObjects\ValvePlatformUIMutex Mutant \Sessions\1\BaseNamedObjects\hl2_singleton_mutex Mutant \Sessions\1\BaseNamedObjects\DBWinMutex To see the mutex files in the process explorer: 1. open it up 2. go to File 3. press Show details for all processes 4. then find and press Show lower pane, its a icon right in the middle of View and Process 5. Find hl2.exe in the processes 6. then press close handle on the Mutexes 7. Open another hl2.exe 8. Host a local server, then type connect ipadress in the console in the other exe 9. then if your name is DarkAvenger304,the other exe's player will be called (1)DarkAvenger304..something like that... 10. Connect a joystick for the other exe, open Auto window manager...and set the other exe's window to -always stay on top- But it's better to see the link of hl1 split-screen instructions....its has a more detailed explanation for it I suggest you set some effects and texture\model quality at medium or low if you don't have an Strong Graphics Card....because of the Lag...i had it when i played with my friend... And some guys at Facepunch said that split-screen isn't possible... That's just for the guys who like split-screen better than online gameplay,or for the guys who haven't got Garry's Mod but have a friend that has it... Download links for Auto Window Manager and Process explorer here: http://am.half-lifecreations.com/forums/index.php?topic=479.0 BTW....Check THIS! out:http://www.garrysmod.org/downloads/?a=view&id=107244 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4w5-2OXDHrw THIS too:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5YdTrhCh70c http://ubtri.blogspot.com/
Wow, I haven't tried, but seems damn useful. Thanks alot for sharing!
There is a possibility that this could get you VAC banned, seeing as you are editing the game .exe.
There is a possibility that this could get you VAC banned, seeing as you are editing the game .exe.
its Garry's Mod, no one cares about VAC bans
its Garry's Mod, no one cares about VAC bans
What if someone uses it in another game? And anyway, look here: http://www.garry.tv/?p=841#comments
how can i get VAC Banned if i'm not even cheating,it is just split-screen.... BTW...Why do people make AIMBOTS for Gmod...it's not some CSS game with noobs and Pro's who headshot you every 5 minutes...it is a sandbox game! http://www.garry.tv/?p=841#comments.... Anyways...Split-screen is not meant to be played online. Thanks Omolong for showing me that link... After all...me and my friend were playing it offline of course, since you can get a VAC ban when cheating on VAC Secured servers, and then if you are banned...you can't play on any VAC-secured server....
People make the aimbots in Lua, which VAC doesn't care about.
People make the aimbots in Lua, which VAC doesn't care about.
You can disable VAC.
There is a possibility that this could get you VAC banned, seeing as you are editing the game .exe.
No, you're editing how the game utilizes the resources it's given within the RAM of your computer, which is even more likely to get you VAC banned than just editing the EXE. I'm pretty sure the game wouldn't even run if you modified the EXE file in any way.
I just went by what I saw in the pictures.
-snip damn it-
This is an excellent idea. Well done Bman for managing to get this to work so cleverly. It all seems to work brilliantly, apart from one tiny thing... I can load up 2 instances of the game, but they refuse to speak to each other. When I attempt to connect to a lan server created by one of the hl2.exes it gives me an error like "This steamid is already in use" or "Steam validation rejected". Probably because I'm technically already on that server. How do I stop this? I even tried running a VAC disabled dedicated server (-insecure), and it would still only let 1 version of the game join. Do I need 2 steam accounts or something strange?
- Disconnect internet - Start steam in offline mode - Make lan server - Play :D [editline]05:42AM[/editline] Also epic find, Im gonna try this and then try to make an launcher.
That sounds like a plan and a half. Cheers :)
Wait so 2 gmod windows right? Doesnt that mean if you have 2 monitors you can do 1 window per monitor? :D
That should be possible yes.. [editline]05:48AM[/editline] Also i want two mouses and keyboards :3 [editline]05:48AM[/editline] (I have them but dunno how to make it work here ^^) [editline]05:49AM[/editline] Also, I use the -w and -h parameters to make two perfect fitting squares :3

I got 2 monitors :D Finally a sensible use. Well my graphics card is gonna suffer. Thanks Bman402, nice idea although I havn't tried that yet. Shall get round to it.
it doesnt work for me... when i press close handle it says i dont have administrative rights to do that PLEEZ HELP!!
it doesnt work for me... when i press close handle it says i dont have administrative rights to do that PLEEZ HELP!!
You're not an administrator of the computer, talk to whoever's in charge of the computer.
This works for me and my friend however, the only problem is that the window I select with the mouse runs smoothly(1st player) but the window that is not selected(2nd player) lags, any solution to this?

Please explain further if you can, I am pretty new to GMOD, it was a gift, I usually play Half life 2
Well, usually when I play TF2 and other source based games, when they are out of focus it lowers the frame rate to about 25 fps, and when I'm in focus, I get about 160 FPS.
You're not an administrator of the computer, talk to whoever's in charge of the computer.
I am the administrator theirs only one account on this computer. Also whenever i run hl2.exe as administrator. I go into the process (hl2.exe) using process explorer and find nothing. So is their another way to fix this?
It would be awesome if you could do something like, have an extra keyboard and mouse that would act like a joystick, then you could use xpadder to put in all of the inputs like a normal keyboard and mouse, that I can do. But getting a keyboard and another mouse to show up as one joysick.....

THE FIX: delete only, and i say ONLY: Mutant \Sessions\1\BaseNamedObjects\hl2_singleton_mutex
