To whom it may concern,
I’d like report an incident that happened today to my 11 yr old son and his friend (also a minor) while playing a game of Garry’s Mod.
Around 2:00 PST on 7/28/14 my son was playing under the account: lukeb02
Server name: SUPERHAPPYFUNTIME
IP Address: 50.136.198.54:27015
At some point in the game, someone by the name of “Oman” or some variation of that name hacked the players within the game, causing them to freeze up controls and commands. He then proceeded to play a pornographic video to them.
I understand that this game is quite large with many different servers; however, I feel like this type of behavior needs to reported. Anyone that would subject children to these types of images is rather sick and twisted and should be banned from any further activity on Steam.
If someone could please look into this incident, I would be appreciative.
Thank you,
facepunch isn't responsible for what server owners choose to do on their own servers so frankly there isn't really anything you can do about it (you could try taking it up with the server admins themselves but they'll probably just laugh at you and tell you to get lost)
that being said most servers don't do shit like that so just tell your son to play on better servers and he'll be fine
edit: 20 bucks says he was annoying people on the server so the admin ran the !meatspin command on him, it does pretty much exactly what you described
lol he got rekt, if he cant handle gmod why he playin dat shit nigga

You should've at least got his steamid.
there is not much we can do. gmod does not have its own servers, all servers you see are third party. they can do what ever they please on them and administrate how ever they wish. The best option would be to find a good server and stick to it (although it is very difficult), remain in single player (probably the best choice), or run a private password protected server for himself and his friends to play on.
also, for future reference, just having someones username is useless. you can change your screen name at any given moment. What is normally used to identify a user is their steam id (it can be retrieved by running the status command in console in all source games). you can then search their id on a service such as steamrep.com or by simply googling it (many servers have a public ban list, so if someone has been misbehaving, chances are they have been banned in the past for it). Also, many servers have their own forums, so you can go over there and file a ban report on the problematic user (although they would probably want evidence, again, we cant do anything about it.)

Don't users need to be 13 years old when accepting the Steam Terms of Service? :v:

He didn't say they his son owned the account...

Didn't the Steam ToS say that you can't share your account directly with another person?
I am pretty sure that gmod got updated because there were multiple complaints about this
get his steam id?
Sorry about some of the people on here, most think doing that to a kid is hilarious.
Unfortunately there isnt much that can be done. Servers are third party and their actions are their own and as long as its not super illegal, nothing will be done. Thats the bad part about multiplayer games. I would recommend that you either supervise your kid or just not let him play multiplayer games.
I'm confident in saying you are a bad parent for letting your child play GMod at 11. Not only is it deteriorating our community as a whole but dear god make him go outside.
You consented to exposing him to an environment that is not intended for his age group.
As a parent, it is your own responsibility to look after your children. The internet is not a play pen where you can safely leave the kids. Its use requires maturity and good judgement.
Now, you can either choose to be offended by what I just wrote or you can accept it and use it to further your own understanding of reality.
In an ideal world, people wouldn't go around spamming unsuitable content - but since the game is not intended for children, you have to judge the risk for yourself.

Are you on something, I played gmod with 11 and I'm fine.
It entirely depends on the child, if it's responsible and so on

Umm......are you a pedophile? That message sounds eerily pedophiley.

You accuse me of taking drugs and then proceed to make a very confusing statement, it's a well known fact that 99% of all of the GMod <16 population are horribly immature. The 1% don't use their mics until they learn their place in our society.
I'm bumping this not for the whatever happened but because "Oman" started ddosing my server. I found his ip in the logs and linked it to a happy fun times server which then lead me to this thread.

Could easily be a VPN.

Considering Garry's Mod has the same age rating as Half-Life 2 and most Source engine games (Rated M or 17+) it's entirely your fault for letting your 11 year old child play it. If anyone should be banned from Steam, it's irresponsible helicopter parents like you that think we're responsible for your children.
Server owners are not required to cater to children and anything that happens on their server that may offend them or their parents.

If it's coming from a single IP address it's not a DDoS, it's just a regular denial of service attack.
You can try filtering the offending IP address so it doesn't reach your server.
Garry's mod has no rating for a reason. You must have seen the store page, unrated is usually a general rating for movies/games with very explicit things in it.

He could also be using a purchased game server to attack you with. Imagine getting hit by a NFO server. Find out the provider if any then report it to them.
