Gmod updates when valve releases updates for css, dod, tf2, and portal. if there's a patch for gmod, it usually shows in the news node.

Garry doesn't do update news anymore. It's been this way for a long time now.
look here the [url]http://store.steampowered.com/news/?feed=steam_updates&appids=4000[/url] the last update note we get are from June and i now there have been more update released since then if there haven't what what are the file that are download a recently for

Garry's Mod is based upon the same engine as CS:S, The Episodes, TF2, and soforth.
So, when Valve decides to update, for instance, TF2, Garry's mod will also automatically update with TF2's content.
So when there is an update, with no actual update news posted in the Garry's mod section, check TF2, CS:S and etc.
Doesn't change the fact that Garry hasn't been documenting anything he's been doing to Garry's Mod for a while. Unless he really only last updated his game over five months ago.
