Mess around covers practically everything, but I'd say I usually go to my weapons tab and try to make courses where I can kill NPC's on the way to an objective. Or I make deathtraps. I also check out toybox plenty, I once got a piano from there, downloaded a tiger ragdoll from there, and made it play piano. :3

I know it's frowned upon, but when I get really bored I just spawn a line of NPC's and kill them. Usually with something off of toybox.
Exit the game, there's obviously a reason I'm bored while playing GMod
Try to make a transformer like of youtube.
Explore shit on toybox and masturbate every time I see a sound-playing only entity.
Get all the cool weapons from Toybox, spawn a bunch of npcs and pretend I am "The One" shooting the bad guys while playing epic music in the backgrounds :cool:
I use the internet radio fom the toybox.
Explore toybox, create npc wars.

I usually run the game with the intent of building something then I get lured in by spawning lots of NPC's and shooting them for hours lol even though I am extremely bored I keep doing it :(... then I play with the toybox and I got that musex addon to play my own music and it feels cooler than running it external in WMP so yeah :P Pretty much mess around.
Usually, I create detailed and difficult NPC rooms with CS:S maps.
If not, I attempt Wire.
Make something stupid like a heavy, with a propellar on head, invisible hover balls everywhere on his body, a no-force thruster on his butt with the fire effect, and watch my rocket take off when I push 0.

I make a video, in singleplayer when I'm bored.
I go into a large map like gm_bigcity, spawn hundreds of enemy NPCs of the same faction/type (Combine, zombies), spawn a vehicle and let them try to hunt me down while I fight them with weapons from toybox.
It's entertaining for a while.
Make ragdolls have sex and fap to it.
Make NPC's go to war!
I end up making a base for me and rebels, while I have Combine forces outside patrolling an area. gm_bigcity is a great map for that. Then we go to war. >:)
