I own an HL2RP server, but my friend is a super admin on it, and he abuses a little bit. It gets annoying and I tell him to stop, but he still does it. He's my friend and I don't want to be harsh on him. What do I do? Everyone says he abuses and blames him for some server problems that have been happening lately. I'm not sure what to do...
Also, don't get me wrong. He wants what's best for the server and he's an old friend of mine, so I know he wouldn't do anything malicious, but people are saying that he's screwing the server up, since only me and him have RCON access.
Since it's your own server, be harsh. Take away some of his privileges, and just give him kick/temp-ban. Don't give him a warning anymore, just do it.
I've had to do the same thing on previous servers I own.
You're much better off having him get a bit mad, instead of losing your players.
I know you're right... But it's so hard to do...
Basically: Sort it or lose your entire player base
Change rcon password and demote him to your highest non-admin rank.

No, if he's an RL or a good online friend, what's more important? A bunch of tools that you've just met, or a longtime friend? So what if he abuses, he might be insane, and if you piss him off, then you're dead.
Think about it, comrade.
Try to talk to him but be firm and don't back down.
Start with the stern "chat" over Steam, show that you're not going to put up with his abusive bullshit.
If that doesn't work, change the RCON password and don't give it to your friend, let him know that if he can't play nice with Super Admin commands, he doesn't deserve to use Console. Remember, DON'T let him talk his way back to the password once you've changed it, he will definitely try.
If he continues or if he just doesn't happen to use RCON that much, try removing "popular" flags such as "ept" or "G". This will show that you're taking action against his abuse and, even though he can give the flags back to himself, should send him a message that he's doing something wrong. On another note, giving flags to yourself usually greatly reduces the person's reputation with the rest of the players, "Guests" don't like it when Super Admins can simply give themselves some ammo when the "Guests" need to buy it from someone lucky enough to get the necessary flags.
If all else fails, don't hesitate to emote him to a normal Admin, Operator, or even "Guest", by this point he's probably going to be very bitchy about the actions you've taken since he's had these privileges for a long time and is used to being able to use RCON, observer, and all those other privileges. Don't fall for it. If your friend can't take warnings to stop the abuse, then he probably doesn't deserve to be a Super Admin in the first place. Power corrupts some people more than others, and it isn't safe to let those people stay in power.
The big thing here is that once you do something, don't "make up for it" or "give it back". That is his punishment and he needs to take the warning his own way. Don't fall for the obligatory begging, he WILL try!
Just my two cents on the topic, sorry if it turned out too long and I hope everything gets resolved in the end. Cheers.
As the above poster said, it is his own fault that he will loose his admin.
I suggest removing it and if he doesn't understand that then he isn't much of a friend.
Take away his admin and tell him to stop being a knocker
When my friend abused admin I went round his house and shot him.

I don't know if you're talking about in RP or in real life.
Either way, that's a 5-star sentence.

Then I cut up his remains, canned them, and sent them to an orphanage as a food donation.
What if hes reading this? questions.. questions.
If your friend will get mad over a video game, then he's not a very good friend.
Sounds like more kids with servers.
If someone abuses just remove their accesses.
Start being mature.
I'm sure if you have to come to facepunch to solve this "moral dilemma" then there's something wrong with your maturity.
Dude your acting like a dumbass, If your paying for a server and hes ruining it, then kick his ass out, you need to whats best for the server and show everyone that you are the boss. But dont do it when no one is on, wait for a lot of people to be on then do it that will show people that you are boss
go on voice chat with him and have a heart to heart.

And if he's rude, meet him in real life and give him a fist to face.
Slit his throat irl. You have a good excuse.
Alright, I know who you are talking about, and quite frankly alot of my steam friends who play on your server complain about him, alot... the choice is yours of what you want to do with it but I'd recommend at least confronting it to him in steam chat.
Btw: Your server is misconfigured because whenever I join it doesn't show the OA menu.

That was really harsh, but you're right. If he's screwing up your server, you need to really make him know who's boss. It's your server, and no-one can ruin it unless they're Garry himself or God.
I think that you should somehow find a way to give him a link to this thread claiming it was accidental.
If he is a true friend, he will realise that you want him to stop admin abusing but you don't want to hurt his feelings just by looking at this thread.
If you are gonna do that, tell me so I can delete this post.
Sorry, you need to Log In to post a reply to this thread.
