No. Bad management will always be, and has always been, bad management. These servers were shit before, the only difference now is that they've tried to polish the turd with stupid amounts of money.
It's the owners' and players' to buy the scripts and play on servers that use them. [editline]9th November 2015[/editline] So really, people "killed" GMod.
I'm slightly biased about this but here's my opinion. Scriptfodder stopped server owners from having motivation to learn lua and make their own shit. From an owners point of view scriptfodder is an easy way to make your server "custom" without spending effort learning lua. From a players point of view you get the same addons you know how to use, so win-win. It's not "killing" gmod, its just people are salty that people are putting addons behind a paywall, which I understand, but if its such a pain, do what people like me have done and learn lua, and do it better.
Does anybody else agree with this? Every server is the same. People have to code in "configLua" for it to be a good script.I understand a business is a business, but in my opinion it killed or help kill Garry's Mod. No hate on any of the marketplaces
I agree it makes servers too similar but also there shouldn't really be payment for a small lua script/addon. If you want to make something then do it cause you enjoy it and give back to the community Steam workshop was made for a reason :P
I'm quite opinionated on this and have said it a few times so I'll try not write a bunch of massive paragraphs. Also aware that I'll come across as biased since I mod ScriptFodder but basically: 1. People complained about gmod servers being all the same before SF/CH but it was about workshop/free/garrysmod.org content 2. There's nothing to stop people, especially those who are against paid scripts, from releasing free ones 3. SF would die if owners didn't buy scripts, owners wouldn't buy scripts if players didn't play their servers so obviously there's clearly a working cycle involved 4. If the average gmod player would rather stick with a server that has sf scripts over unique content, then that isn't the site's fault - however I can totally understand getting frustrated/sad over it 5. Plenty of people still play Gmod - in fact, it's been in the top 10 of Steam games currently played for a while however it is currently at 14th which may be do to new releases :v:
1. People complained about gmod servers being all the same before SF/CH but it was about workshop/free/garrysmod.org content
This. There were already a LOT of things already "killing" Garry's Mod, most of which were way worse. ScriptFodder's making DarkRP boring and generic, maybe, but Garry's Mod isn't just DarkRP.
I agree it makes servers too similar but also there shouldn't really be payment for a small lua script/addon. If you want to make something then do it cause you enjoy it and give back to the community Steam workshop was made for a reason :P
Except look at what's on the workshop and what's on SF. All that's on Scriptfodder are HUDs, DarkRP scripts, and a few odd TTT items while the workshop has more of a selection. There's nothing that could really be considered groundbreaking for the game that's being released on SF.
