Are there any good gamemodes out there, or is gmod filled with RP, TTT, Prop hunt and Murder servers?
Stronghold. I host a server for it, its pretty laid back.

I spent most of my playtime on Minigames, because the gamemode offers a lot of custom modes and stuff, but it's not very popular though since it's waaaay down the gamemode lists.

People are currently working on reviving Spacebuild, you can find the official thread [url=https://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1519499]here.[/url]
Spacebuild is a sandbox-kind-of game-mode where you build spaceships with functioning life support systems. You can build a small spaceship, you can make a huge ship, or even a space station where other ships may dock. The ship you make can be for reconnaissance (in case you want to do base wars on planets and need to scout the map for a good location for a base), offense, defense, transport, you name it. The goal of the server often depends on what the owner decides it to be, but overall it's combat.
There are tons of custom models that are all included in one single download on the workshop. Additionally (and optionally) you can install life support (this is enabled by default on all spacebuild maps.) I used to play this game-mode a lot back in the day before it died out, it was a lot of fun. Right now I'm trying to regain my building skills in single-player, once I'm set, I will check out the servers that run the game-mode.
I hope this helps, I feel like this is a true Garry's Mod game-mode.
Idk about DarkRP but people always shit on TTT but in my opinion that's because they never played on an actually good TTT server. When everyone is playing the way it should be played it gets nerve wracking.

After playing a lot of TTT, i can kinda say that there are either servers with bullshit admins, servers with bullshit ranks and servers that give you lots of lag.
There's only a few good servers, that are good and have players, really.
