Hi! This is a Post-Yours thread where I'd ask something big from the community: if you have the time, please share with me what is/are your favorite gamemode(s)! Also, what do you find the most important on servers that host that very gamemode - ie. what addons are a must-have, what are common problems to fix, what's the best experience you've had with the gamemode, what's the most important part of the gameplay and anything you'd like to add! I am just asking for a few lines and that'd help me alot! I'd just like to hear the opinion of the community, because everything is so confusing: People seem to be bitchy about DarkRP yet that's the most populated gamemode on the server browser; all my friends on steam happen to love RP but they're all on sandbox servers. I'll start with mine! My favorite gamemode is Sandbox! I like servers with around 8-12 players, and on a map that provides multiple, different areas to build on (like water/urban-building/grassland on the same map), and I prefer using wiremod as a mean of constructing clever devices. Sprops and advanced duplicator are incredibly important addons. On the other hand, I'm getting sick of useless modelpacks of random game's characters of 500 mb download size, especially if it's available for VIP's only. My favorite experience was starting to build a huge missile with wire, and in the end the whole server joined in to help making it real! My second favorite is DarkRP! I like playing on servers with 30-40 players and on small, accessible maps. I only tend to play when I can play as a banker with wiremod. I love building wire-based banks with things like wire bank cards, bank accounts and interest rates. Besides wiremod, I love servers with actually unique universe, or at least parts of uniqueness in that regard - and have the gamemode adjusted to that (like jobs and atmosphere). I like DarkRP for the opportunities it provides, but I hate not quite serious administrators, instability on servers and misconfigured set-ups serverside (eg. buggy, shitty addons). My favorite memory was when I had a bank running on the same DarkRP server for three weeks, and in the end I had the admins'/players' supporting me, I even got a new rule added that protected me from loan frauds. My actual all-time favorite was Aerolite's Black Mesa RP server, but both are gone now. RIP. P.S.: Budapest Pride 2016 :pride::excited::pride:
Sandbox or bust. As for must-haves, if you don't have the Joystick addon installed I can't play on your server. I drive my cars with a PS3 pad, which requires that addon to work. Beyond that, SProps, Wiremod, ACF, and some odds 'n ends here and there to round it out. Basic build server setup. AKA: Cre8ive and GME Build.

OT: My favourite gamemode is Sandbox, but I like it when it has spacebuild on it, or some sort of addon that utilises world portals. There's one called safe space which allows you to build in a pocket dimension (which I actually want to see in an RP map. Save on map space by using a pocket dimension to store the inside of houses, meaning you only need 1 house internal held outside the map and maybe a hallway for units or something like that and you have cut out so much content you have room for a larger DarkRP map.) My second favourite is DarkRP, but only when its done correctly. You need minimal rules, staff that don't need to do sits to sort out problems, and good content. Use that map idea with world portals to create a uniform internal space and link it using world portals and concepts displayed in safe space.
darkrp that isn't bloated with SF addons, simple rules to fuck with twelves(literally) and self-made unique scripts
Seconded. Don't forget ACf Missiles though.
I mostly build cars so ACF missiles is optional for me.
Speaking of Joystick addon, is it still being maintained? last time I checked, it hasn't been touched in years.
I'm not sure if it's under active maintenance but I do know that it works just fine.
I'm actually quite into DarkerGaming Minigames at the moment. Can't really get into DarkRP - it's a bit boring. Haven't played on Sandbox for a long time. I do enjoy the occasional game of Deathrun if the maps are decent.
My favorite game mode in gmod is trouble in terrorist town (TTT) and here's why: ~Will have you guessing who is the bad guy ~great fun maps ~involves the process of elimination I think one server I could recommend is brown town 24/7 TTT :goodjob:
Here's a new one for you! (or an old one... I'll explain later) Trash Compactor This gamemode pits everyone on the server against one player that is chosen from a queue to be the Trash Man. The Trash Man is positioned at the opening of a chute with lots of props ranging in size with the objective to kill all the other players located within the chute. This might sound familiar if you are fond of Halo 3 Custom Games as there is a Custom Game that goes by the same name which this is a direct inspiration from. It's always fun and interesting trying new tactics for throwing trash down the chute or hiding behind/jumping on piles of props. With a moderately full lobby, it's quite talkative and chill, everyone's there just to have fun. Some players even find some nostalgia from their Halo 3 / Reach days. I have worked with the developer of this gamemode (VictomOfScience) to make a server of my own. I have made some tweaks to the ui including colors and text formatting as well as added realistic damage and 100-tick. Since lots of players enjoy the nostalgia, I have decided to add the Enhanced PlayerModel Selector menu with Halo 3 Spartan and Elite playermodels with full bodygroup support to complete the facade. It's a very simple gamemode, but it's definitely a winner.
-Wall of text-
Pretty sure this was a discussion thread, not to advertise your community.
Pretty sure this was a discussion thread, not to advertise your community.
My intent is not to advertise, I am clearly interested in the gamemode considering I've spent the time and energy to make and host a server dedicated to the gamemode. If anything that further validates my interest in the gamemode. I spent the majority of my post talking about the mode as opposed to the server, but I still plugged it if people were interested. I didn't even paste the ip like a blatant advertisement usually will do. Also I like that blatant back-handed 'wall-of-text' thing you did there. Considering I used less words than OP. I apologise if I triggered anyone when talking about my favorite gamemode in a Post-Yours thread.
I apologise if I triggered anyone when talking about my favorite gamemode in a Post-Yours thread.
no one cares that you talked about your gamemode, they care that you're trying advertise.
Thank you guys! Please don't get edgy on eachother, I just asked about opinion; if he says this or that gamemode is better than the rest, that's advertising, but it's exactly what I was looking for then.
