• How do i make my server TTT popular
    15 replies, posted
i've had my server for about a month now and every time i check on it it's empty. i think the only time it's been full is when it first started up. i've employed admins to moderator the server for when i'm not there and i've added a few things that plays have requested but i cant seem to get it right. where am i going wrong?
Don't have insane download times, make use of FastDL and optimise your server, do not have too much custom shit. pointshop is okay just do not over-do it with 50 anime models and or huge Mario models which makes it impossible to headshot. Get ACTIVE admins, make sure your admins stay in the server and join when it's empty people are not joining a empty TTT server Try to balance your server weapon-wise default shotty is OP etc etc Do not add too many T / D weapons and try to remove all model / texture errors (i've seen so many servers with T weapons which the icons are just a missing texture etc, it looks unproffesional) Anyways, it's really hard starting a TTT server around this time, when holidays kick in around June / July you will defo get more players, getting a active and solid TTT playerbase is a challenge. Love, KJ
As a developer for a growing server in its ~4 months of starting and having a playerbase that is small, but growing, I will say these few things: - Learn how to code God how much I can't express this enough. If you get an errror, you'll know how to fix it. Want to make a custom addon or change a currently existing addon to your liking or maybe even try to recode that addon to your liking? You can all do that if you can code. Stops' your server from also looking bad with all those "Something is creating script errors" - FastDL Don't use WorkshopDL. It is slow since it has a cap on how much bandwith can be used while downloading. FastDL means as fast as the FastDL host allows. This also means if Steam Workshop goes down, your FastDL doesn't. - Custom, not too much though People now days aren't really into vanilla (Besides the I'd say 20%-40% of players and trolls) so try to add some things to your server. Make a semi-vanilla (Add custom stuff while trying to keep downloads to a min. I.E. no more than 30 downloads) or full custom (Having anything custom and IMO keeping downloads no higher than 500mb due to long load times) - sF overuse I don't mind the use of ScriptFodder scripts but don't make your whole server based off of ScriptFodder scripts and using overused scripts (and especially using this scoreboard which IDK why the developer decided to add TTT support since it looks NOTHING LIKE A TTT SCOREBOARD (IMO though))
Host a DarkRP server and then once you get players just open up a TTT server and have your playerbase overlap
1. don't have a bunch of stupid ass bullshit being installed when players join 2. ?? 3. profit
Try using redirect servers xD. To be serious: just make individual things that other people doesn't have. Okay, now I am really serious: From what I see most of the TTT servers are using bad coded addons from the workshop. So there isn't really a receipt that helps you to get famous.
- FastDL Don't use WorkshopDL. It is slow since it has a cap on how much bandwith can be used while downloading. FastDL means as fast as the FastDL host allows.
Workshop download is faster than FastDL now imo because with one of the last updates it will download more than one addon at once. FastDL will only download one file at once. Also it is easier to maintain updates etc.
This is personally what I look for in a TTT server, take this with a grain of salt as I haven't played copious amounts of TTT and this is purely my opinion: 1. Good Maps For me personally, to actually enjoy TTT it has to have enjoyable maps, please don't litter your server with Minecraft maps, it ruins the flow of the gameplay due to the blocky terrain, not to mention most of the Minecraft maps are very linear and boring. 2. Pointshop For gamemodes like TTT, pointshop is pretty essential if you're planning to follow the current meta, if you want people to be impressed create a custom skin for your pointshop, make sure you're adding unique and nice items to the pointshop. Price it fairly, there's nothing I hate more then joining a server that gives you 10 points every half an hour and then seeing a playermodel that costs 25,000 points. If you're really looking to impress, you could even go as far as to change the currency from points to something else. 3. Staff Team I want to prefix this with: Don't add a chat filter, if you do make sure it only targets extreme words. Instead of adding a chat filter you should build a good staff team, don't just accept people because they're your friends, make sure they have the qualities you require to build a good staff team. Make sure they're only punishing those who cuss if they're using it aggressively towards another player, there is no use in limiting people and preventing them from cussing as a whole. 4. Forums This is honestly more if your going for a large community, however if your limiting yourself to just a TTT server then it wouldn't be worth going to all of this effort. When I join a community I look for a really nice forum layout, I personally enjoy posting on the forums and communicating with others on there, it's a good way to meet other community members. If you are going for a larger community sort yourself out with a nice forum design and for the love of god do not use an enjin forum.
1. don't have a bunch of stupid ass bullshit being installed when players join 2. ?? 3. profit
Been trying this. FNAF models and 24/7 minecraft seems to be working better tbh God I hate gmod q_q
Been trying this. FNAF models and 24/7 minecraft seems to be working better tbh God I hate gmod q_q
I feel your pain... And I own a god damned DarkRP server :suicide:
Been trying this. FNAF models and 24/7 minecraft seems to be working better tbh God I hate gmod q_q
You can either take quick success, or take longer success and ultimately have a more flushed out server with a more dedicated community behind it. Alternatively, create a different server, some DarkRP players can actually respect a well put together server, so that might be a good gamemode to invest some time into.
Make sure its has lots of things other server do not. I made everyone 0.425 scale on my server and after that it became one of the top Hide and Seek server. In worst case you can make it CSS free.. :P
- As owner/superadmin, be active as much as possible, especially if the server is empty. People are a lot more likely to stay on a server if they see the owner is regularly active. - If you sell VIP or anything similar, give away some for free. - Demote abusive admins (duh) - Try to have at least 1 or 2 unique features, something that no other server has. Sit down with some of your admins or whoever and come up with ideas. If you can't code it, pay someone to do it. - Listen to your community. If they ask for a certain feature, add it. If the majority of them ask you to remove a certain feature, remove it, regardless if you like it or not. - Have admins and loyal players get on the server when it's empty, and reward them for doing so. the list goes on. Having an empty server doesn't mean you're doing something wrong. It takes a lot of time and patience to build up a player base, especially in a gamemodes that already have hundreds of servers. Just take your time, don't abuse, treat people right, and you'll be fine.
I have a TTT server and have not yet a stable player base, but I have noted something that is important and which has helped me to atleast get a few online now and then. 1. Like everyone says stay on as much as possible even if you are AFK. 2. I would recommend Fangli's ingame addon downloader if you have a decent amount of addon for a very short connection time ( https://www.gmodstore.com/scripts/view/2101/fanglis-in-game-downloads ) 3. For TTT don't use workshop as fastDL for maps because if forces the clients to download all the maps when they first connect, if you use FastDL for maps they will download the map when the map changes to it. ( Note only use FastDL for maps, if you don't have the in game downloader for addons use Workshop for other addons. ). 4. Map choice is up to you, but I like to mix my maps up some minecraft and some classic once. 5. Use TTT weapon collection ( http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=194965598 ) it still keeps the vanilla weapons for TTT but also brings in a lot of new weapons, they are very good. 6. Use map vote ( http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=151583504 ) with this addon your players can vote for the map they would like to go on. Hope this help, good luck with your server :)
