Redirect / Fake Server Report Megathread - ALL FAKE SERVERS POSTS GO HERE - Garry's Mod

If you are here to witch-hunt Superior Servers, or the Facepunch Community, please read [url=https://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1559113&p=52072577&viewfull=1#post52072577]this post[/url] and most of the posts before it before posting your 5 cents. This isn't a witch-hunt thread, it's a thread for reporting and discussing redirect servers, their punishments, and how they could possibly be redeemed.[/B] Rather than shit up the Next Update thread with drama about Superior Servers and their Redirect servers, as well as those that belong to other communities, I've decided to make this thread to play host to discussions regarding redirect servers, fake servers, and servers that use fake players to inflate their playercount. I'll be using this post to give an update on where we stand as of now regarding this subject. At the time of writing this, [URL="https://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1537303&p=51989143&viewfull=1#post51989143"]all redirect servers are on their final notice[/URL]... with the culprirts "Superior Servers" and "NoxiousNet" currently facing main-server blacklists for their actions. Superior Servers have shown they wish to get their server unblacklisted, however there has been a large amount of disagreement in this thread as to how they should do this. Some say they should apologize only to their playerbase, some say they should just be unbanned anyways, but that's what this thread is for; discussing this! Ultimately this discussion has taken up nearly half a dozen pages on the Next Update thread, which casts a shadow on legitimate uses for that thread (such as Awesomium and what not), and so this thread is required as the discussion has become big enough to warrant its own thread. Hopefully users will use this thread to update Robotboy and other devs as to new bypasses used. Some people have taken to calling this a witch-hunt thread and "Want to see superior servers dead" but that's simply unreasonable. No community should suffer permanently due to a couple of bad decisions. If facepunch followed that logic, a user would be banned permanently just because a picture they posted to LMAO pics wasn't funny enough! We should give any community that shows willingness to correct their mistakes another chance. Ultimately I'd like to see Robotboy implement a more permanent solution to these fake servers, however at this stage I'm not sure what that solution could be. Let's hope we can come up with one. EDIT 8/4/17 (d/m/yy): The mods have stickied this thread and as such I felt that the OP required some tweaking to be less community specific. I've adjusted wording and snipped out useless details as most details are in this thread now. In addition to this, there have been some concerns as to the server list's current status. A couple of days ago somebody managed to generate 150 servers, each with 124 players, in a custom gamemode called "awesomiumreplacementwhen??". This naturally put the server at the top of the server browser. After speaking with some users that claim they had something to do with it, I learned that this was a form of protest over Garry's Mod's web component, Awesomium, which anyone who has taken 5 seconds to look at the Next Update thread can tell you, is terribly outdated but cannot easily be changed due to 32 bit compatibility and lack thereof in viable alternatives. Since then the server list has been reported to be a bit crazier. Just scrolling through some of the threads that were closed for missing this thread, I can see there are some gamemode names such as "NorthKoreaWasRite", "AwsomiumSux" and "SrvBrows2When". These ALL fall under the category of redirect/fake servers, and these ALL are prohibited in the eyes of the Garry's Mod Dev team. Just like with regular redirect servers, report IP's here and they'll get blacklisted. Oh also... congrat's to Superior Servers and Hezzy for reaching a conclusion! You do know one of the accounts you accused of being a fake account is a GA in their community? Second one use to be an old GA (GamingGuthor) in the community and he now plays Starwarsrp with syn, Nice job picking real people as fakes. I also don't see as to what makes it wrong for you to encourage staff members or even players to afk in the server? It helps out the server in the end and many MANY community's in Gmod do it? So why choose to point it out and pick on Sup? I wouldn't see an issue with penguin redirecting people within his own server if they've been afk? I mean, I get the whole ping situation and mirror shit and I'm not even going to fight that but resolving to accusing us that the players are fake is pretty amusing and should probably be taken as a compliment. Have you actually played on any of the servers? encouraging staff to AFK isn't proof of botting, nor would I ever want to be part of something that is botting. GamingGunther has been there for years. Shuggy is councl ("super admin") and has been since SUP started. Syntality is a clonewars player and is staff, also been there for 3+ years. doomy AFAIK is a VIP and also plays on clonewars. The steam accounts you have listed don't even actively play the server and are likely alts. There are 500k+ logged users on SUP and around half are considered "active". So you're linking alt accounts or new users. I could look into them if you really wanted me to. Also the 4 players with the same connection time means nothing at all. Most likely the server had an update or crashed and they have been playing the whole time. It's not uncommon for people to play 7+ hours a day on a single server. Nothing is wrong with moving non-VIPs and AFK players to other less populated servers when there needs to be room made for connecting users. AFKs are marked and constantly sent to all staff and displayed at the bottom of the scoreboard. Please at least try to be invested in investigating something you're trying to make out as botting. Find out how to blacklist, block or whatever you guys have been up to but it's clear your vendetta goes beyond blocking. You're just grasping at straws now that the "mirrors" have been turned off for most of the night.

This whole thing about SuperiorServers, and their player spoofing/ping spoofing is getting way off-topic. Now you are just making it obvious that you have a hatred for stoned and do not wish well for him. SuperiorServers is his full-time job, and just because of a small deal (I personally don't think the redirect servers are such a big deal, but we can make it a big deal in order to somehow convince the developers into fixing the server browser) you want to strip his job? I think this is rather dumb. I'll back up SUP on this one -- the four accounts you accused as being fake on the GameTracker are all people I know personally and have been with the community for a long time. As for the dead alt accounts, there used to be a number of users who had upwards of 50 alts (I believe NootNootEh/Canadian was even one of those at one point, but my memory might be serving me wrong) and would use them to farm money on the server until Stoned banned the practice. Although I can assure you that some user's still do have alts idling on the server, it is not out of the server owners' will and rather the player's who are using them to spambot communities. It may seem personal at this state but that's because he is the only one doing it at this state. If SUP is his job, he should be pursuing every effort to keep his "job" perfectly legal in the eyes of the community. By using redirect servers despite being told not to by Robotboy, he is putting his "job" in jeopardy. If it was such a small deal, why didn't he just do as he said he would, as robotboy told him to, and as we all asked him to and simply cut out the redirect servers? Hell, it was only 6 months ago we were asking him to simply label them! I'd still accept him simply labeling his redirect servers and [B]ASKING[/B] players if they wish to be redirected. I'm sure many people would also be ok with this. This shit is slowly escalating. I Know, Stoned is wrong, totatlly wrong in this case. But this matter pretty much splits the community here in two parts. I have no idea what to exactly do, he will continue, that's for sure. We can block many IPs, he'll get new ones. Hell, they're going against the GMOD Devs! Legal Action would not use anything, sadly. Superiorservers isn't really a company. The only thing which we can seriously do is simply deleting their collections and blocking _sup maps. VAC Banning the Player won't happen, I believe. I'm seriously unsure about all of this, so don't think I'll find a solution. Anyways, they're fighting like hell to keep Superior "alive". I would honour that, but currently everyone is pissed and their way of fighting is executed poorly. Their servers are sadly really popular.

So, this topic started with a complaint about the Redirect server from SuperiorServers and thus from aStonedPenguin, right? This resulted in a quarrel in which only aStonedPenguin was verbally attacked. Then someone noticed that there are still other servers that practice this behavior. You have now blocked a few of the Redirect servers. aStonedPenguin was or is apparently slightly dissatisfied with it and has a kind of proxy server (I know myself with the topic not so good.). This idea came up against rejection. And now he seems to be on stress and has set up new Redirect servers. However, it seems like there are other Redirect servers. This is from the post where the two Zombie Survival Servers were named. I would now agree that we agree on the following: - Redirect servers must be removed. - We need a GENERAL SOLUTION for this problem and not one that is aimed on SUP. What is most important: We need a general definition from facepunch, what is considered as a redirect server and also, what is forbidden. Then there is no discussion as to whether the methods of aStonedPenguin or anyone else are forbidden or allowed. By the way, sorry if the text contains many grammatical mistakes. For example, you live in Australia, you see "Wow this server only has 6 Ping", you join the server and see "Woah, this server isn't Australian, I have 200 Ping" It redirects you to the "official" server.

[QUOTE=VenomousBeetle;52052957]What exactly is a redirect Just a server ip entry that forwards you to a server?[/QUOTE] From my personal interpretation it goes like this: -Server exists in country A. -Known player population exists in country B. -Server in country A has decent or great playercount and either wants more players in general OR he wants "fake" players of sorts to get even more people to join (See: The player snowball effect). -Server knows of population in country B. -Server sets up a "husk server" of sorts in country B that utilizes some sort of player faking OR streams data from a real server to the husk server such that it looks like a real server but is really just a tiny empty one. The purpose is it looks like a low ping high player count server even though it's not, and clients connect to it accordingly (and are then redirected to the real server). From here, either clients connect and: - Don't realize how shit their connection is due to long distance, stay and bolster the server's player counts (especially in quiet times like early morning hours where in country A it may be 2 AM but in country B it's mid day). This keeps server ranking as well as a few other small things. - Realize their connection is shit, but are on the server long enough to convince in-country to join since the server's "populated".

Most if not all of the other communities didn't bother bringing their redirect servers back after being told to cut it out. He did. Perhaps it's more due to how outright obnoxious Stoned is about it, and the fact that he lied about removing them.

I haven't once seen any of Noxious's servers, not this week nor any time in the past 6 months. This isn't just a thread for me to report redirects in. Hello I'm just some aussie server owner nothing special, just wanna post my 2 cents considering I host a server in AUSTRALIA that is COMPETING or WAS competing with an american server. In my eyes and blatantly obvious to everyone out there that the "lowest ping server" Normally wins the cake over when players are looking for a new server to connect to. Oh and what do the Sup servers pings always at "20" wow! They must be great servers! Hosted on great dedicated server with amazing networking! Wow take me on board!!!!! Then 20 minutes later your on a server with 128 coons from all over the world that fell for what you just did. A re direct server, your left there... with 100+ ping. For us aussies however considering our country is behind in technology and our government gets a fucking hardon for trains we are still behind in internet speeds. So we get like 200 +. Please just get out of Australia you american servers. You wouldn't like it if us big aussie server owners started popping up in america with "20" ping servers to fool the entire community. After all Gmod is still played to this day due to server owners and players wanting to enjoy a community or a server without being lied to. Please go away Superior servers :words:
