Hi, We are running a DarkRP server with about 20-30 users daily (server is new, about 1 week old). I have no dedicated, I bought 30 slots only, as I know, that having more than 30 users on the server, the server starts lagging as hell. So soon I have to switch to a dedicated and upgrade to 64 slots. How much CPU power will I need? Do you think max 4 Ghz is enough or do I need minimum 4 Ghz? I know RAM is not very important, it will go out with 16GB. And how much will we need (if we plan in future) to upgrade to 80 or 100 slots? (Just for my knowledge) Thanks for reading!
What you listed is overkill. SRCDS can only make use of a single core, so check the single core speed, It'll probably be around 2.3Ghz, even this is overkill though. You're ram is way overkill too, even for large (darkrp) servers 2GB is a little much. The most important thing is where the server is located, where your player base is located, and how well/poorly written your addons are.

Also 2GB is not enough for a large server, SRCDS can use upward of 4GB, so I advise having that. Personally I see larger servers sit around 2 GB of usage, so it's a good idea to give it a bit more "leg room" there. The most critical factor most people don't understand is your server configuration, not the hardware. The hardware is only as critical when you're really pushing source to its limits already, 4Ghz is fine for 64 players. Generally 80 players is a bit harder to achieve without some form of optimistaion or tweaking on the server configuruation/setup.
What tickrate is the server running on?
Thanks for answering. It's running on 33 tick.
There's too much misinformation on this thread from people who don't know what they're talking about. Ghz means almost nothing on it's own, our 4790k at 5ghz is about as powerful as our 6800k at 4.4ghz - per core in benchmarks. 1) What model & brand of CPU do you have? Chances are it's adequate, if you have a 4790k+ then you'll be able to host quite a large server. 2) Garrysmod's srcds CAN use multiple cores. If you don't believe me then use mpstat and look for yourself. Because the load isn't equally shared for the primary logic, a strong per-core cpu does help large servers. 3) You cannot use more than 4gb for the server. As it's a 32-bit application, it would reach it's address range limit. I'd suggest you stick to using Linux and/or increase your 2gb memory for a large server.
Any host suggestions in here? Please no biased posts.
Any host suggestions in here? Please no biased posts.
Shared hosting from personal experience are quite variable. They often oversell machines and you never may not get consistent performance. Additionally DDOS attacks make things more difficult, so most VPS's and even some Dedicated servers are not covered by your intended usage. Are you hosting for the European, American or other market? If European, Germany seems to be the most well connected overall, followed by London - When we had servers there. For a large server, you need the performance of a dedicated (Unfortunately a lot of Xeon's have weak cores) with the price of a shared hoster. This can be tricky starting out.
Hi, thanks for your answer! I thought about this server: https://www.ngz-server.de/rootserver/gamers_entry/server_ It is a German website, but you should get all the information.

If you're planning to run a large community, it's likely you'll want good DDoS mitigation, especially as competitors provide it for a very similar price to what you're paying. The actual data centre connectivity seems fine. However, keep in mind you're buying 2x120GB disks which isn't much "leg room" at all for growth, especially if you run in Raid 1. Obviously, it depends on your target market - but France is also ideal for UK connectivity while otherwise maintaining excellent EU connectivity.
i would suggest https://www.hetzner.com/ there germany based and a really great company and provides ddos protection and great support. atleast with my interactions with them
