Garry's Mod Nexus - Discussion

A day ago, I was speaking to Dab from Defconnations after hearing about some problem involving our communities with a malicious user.
Though being able to resolve the issue, I was informed about this organisation called Garry's Mod Nexus.
After doing some reading and being invited to attend a meeting with them on sunday at 12 am AEST, I was confronted with what appears to me a looming danger to the winder Garry's Mod community (in my opinion).
I still plan on attending this meeting but I think its in the interest of the people to know what this is.

I'll make this really simple to explain, using these public materials:

Its essentially a knockoff United Nations for Garrysmod run by 4 large communities with high influence *within gmod* (Icefuse Networks, Gateway Gaming, Last Bastion and Gaminglight).

This organisation regardless of its good intentions creates a mallot of power for its 'benefactors'.
The constitution though I agree with the principles that have good intent, I feel that this assembly either will have no power or too much power.

I'm specifically taking aim at "creating a global blacklist of individuals or communities who maliciously intent to cheat or harm Garry's Mod servers" and "holding communites accountable for their negative actions".

I've tried to do the same in the past with GGS Bans and was blasted for it for the right reasons. It cannot be done and no mater how well intentioned this may be. I can see glaring problems with this organisation.

I'm disturbed as this sounds like a plan to further the interests of larger communities at the expense of the weak and powerless.

What are your thoughts on this org? Should something like this exist? Is it a danger to gmod? Can we trust them?

Its hilarious to me that I'm defending you robbo from being targeted by this new tribunal body whists your connection with that Odium thing causing immeasurable grief for hundreds of communities including my own.
Gmod Nexus has some good ideas to assist in combating malicious intent but the scope of power really worries me, especially when Gateway Gaming's owner has personally seen to the eradication of myself from the small australian mount and blade warband community.

To be honest, nobody should jump the gun on this. It just looks like a lot of big talk from a smaller subcommunity of Garry's Mod.

Also, I love how they say DDoS is not permitted against servers for failure to "fall in line w/ GNEX" but you can do it for "your own self-scientific testing". What?

I've sat down with these gents and though I am extremely worried about the overreach of this community as it sounds to be an absolute power to enact judgement on any offending community or user, I've been reassured that its intentions are honest and that its for designed for the betterment of all members in it.

My gut says that this is a powerplay that shouldn't be assisted and stopped but I'll still be attending to hear what they have to say about issues that are plaguing current server owners such as the threat of odium destroying servers.
Yes it could be helpful but I will not abide to any sort of banning system for infractions to these ethical guidelines they have presented.
This creates too much friction and blurs the lines on what is good and evil which ultimately could result in false claims and injustices, even with the hardest of evidence.

Relationships between servers can be made without the need of being a member of a cult. If they follow what they preach, only time will tell.

:chillout: End of the day if you don't like it just ignore it. It doesn't affect you, we are not placing any "Global ban lists" or any communist goals like that.

If you want a reason why I'm in the Gnex as security council. I want to try and unite workshop between server owners/developers, allowing us to share resources and benefit each other. In turn making Gmod servers better for players. No I don't mean make all content public. But maybe allow servers to trade for resources or whatever the outcome is. After all I can't control other server owners decisions, if they want to share their resources then that is their decision.
I made ALL of my content public, so yeh.

Seriously, with all the fancy markup, constitution, articles, the agendas and minutes I wouldn't be surprised if "[I]holding communities accountable[/I]" actually meant taking them to fucking court.

Or more likely: they are overly formal to appear more legitimate.

What's with making Garry's Mod a game literally designed for 12 year olds to simply have fun playing into some bullshit "business" constitution to milk money and drain all the fun out of what was once a very good game. The communities listed in this thread that are part of "Garry's Mod Nexus" are literally the reason why Garry's Mod has become so shit as of late, with servers just being spat out over 2 seconds full with Gmodstore scripts and plastered with millions of rules.
