A gamemode of deception and murder, based off Murder in the Dark and a bit similar to Cluedo.
One person is a murderer with a knife, who is trying to secretly kill off the other players.
The other players must use their wits to find out who it is and kill them first. Unfortunately they only have the one gun between them.

Unlike TTT, there is only ever 1 murderer and people arn't armed to the teeth with guns.

They drop the gun and can't pick it up again for 20 seconds.

Loot are collectable objects around the map, if a bystander collects 5 of them, he is given a gun.

Hold down Q and click on what you want to say

The murderer can see the footsteps of all the players, they disappear after 30 seconds.

Try turning off knife halos with "mu_halo_knife 0"
If that doesn't work try turning off halos altogether with "mu_halo_render 0"
If that doesn't work try turning decreasing mu_footstep_maxlifetime, the default is 30, measured in seconds.
Quite a fun gamemode!
I like the polished and clean gui.
Can you post some more details and screenshots? Like:
- How is this different than TTT?
- Are the murderers a team or can they murder each other?
- What happens if a bystander kills another bystander?

The murderer seems to get lag. People say it's the footsteps that's making the murderer lag and I also believe that it is the footsteps so now my question is, is it possible to toggle the footsteps for the murderer on or off and also is there a way to make it show the user's name when they speak instead of just showing bystander.

This happened to me as well. Framerate started chugging the moment I spawned as a murderer and folks started walking around. The footsteps are an awesome way to keep track of and find folks, but it could use some optimization.
Also, there are a few folks who are color-blind, and multiple times where folks spawn with similar colors. With the amount of folks that have similar/troll names, would it be possible to have randomly given names? Could use the [url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NATO_phonetic_alphabet#Code_words]NATO alphabet[/url] for this.
Other than the occasional tool who shoots bystanders for laughs, and bad hitboxes (which every gamemode suffers from), I'm having a lot of fun with this.
There's too much random killing and the rounds take way too long.
Maybe think about adding a penalty if you kill an innocent and add a round timer.

It's really cool that people who talk on voice chat come up as Bystanders, but there's quite a few really obnoxious people on the British server and it's impossible to tell who I want to mute. Another suggestion, get some sort of anti-afk or changing system.
Gotta say, I'm really enjoying this after 20 minutes or so. Would love to play it with some Facepunchers!

Would be nice if admins could see the names of the people talking cause i'm getting stick of racist remarks from players and nothing i can really do to stop them =/

- Added a speed penalty for shooting a bystander
- Increased penalty for shooting a bystander to 20 seconds
- Added anti AFK, players will be moved to spectator
- You can now mute from end of round popup
- Added convars for debug and footsteps lifetime
A lot of people have commented about footsteps lagging, could you turn on "mu_debug 1" and tell me how many footsteps you have to lag?
Sadly I had to play with matt earlier... Footsteps did cause a huge drop in fps. They really aren't even that useful but if you want to keep them a lot of optimization on that sort of thing needs to be done so even low end pc users can still play. Loved it and keep up the good work.

Hey I ran a profiler on the footsteps, cam.Start3D and End3D were taking up a fair amount of time. Try changing your renderfoot function to:

Yeah, I have the footsteps in another gamemode and I moved cam functions outside the loop in that, but forgot to bring the changes back into Murder. I moved it out and added a distance check in that latest update so hopefully that will speed it up. Also what profiler do you use? Would be helpful.

Anyway, I appreciate you adding some anti-afk stuff and looking at the footprints. I played the game tonight with Matt and my partner, and while the gamemode isn't perfect, it was really enjoyable. Nice work!
matt not everyone is a asshole or wants to hear people be stuck in the fucking 1800's some of us want to provide a game where people can speak without worrying about having to hear pricks cussing and using racist remarks left and right cause some of us are adults unlike the immature people like you
