Well, if you're anything like me; you thought the GarrysMod 10 loading screen was brilliant. So i've decided to pull a backup of my old GMod 10 files, and rip the loadingscreen files out of it.
After a short episode of patching them up, I've gotten rather pleasing results.
You can download it here!

Do note, that once you install this "custom" loading screens will no longer work, you will not be able to load HTML on a loading screen.
At any given point, if you decide you want to uninstall this, within the lua folder of the zip i've included a backup of the "old menu loading file", just replace that.
Do note that you MUST INSTALL THIS IN THE ROOT OF YOUR GARRYSMOD FOLDER, THE MENU IS LOADED BEFORE MOUNTING TAKES PLACE.
This means you must extract the zip into garrysmod/garrysmod/.
It will probably ask to overwrite exactly one file when you paste / extract it, be sure to say yes.
In later versions I will add support for loading HTML alongside this, and settings for finding music within the HTML and killing it.
Enjoy your garrysmod 10 nostalgia.

Or for beta version with LuaLoad support

Would be awesome to have an HTML version of this to use on servers!
This brings me back. Love it man!

Don't get me wrong, I'd LOVE to make a javascript version. There's just a few issues in my way :(.
You see, JavaScript allows us to know what files are being downloaded as they're being downloaded, but doesn't give us a list of what files they are, or their type. So only at the moment of downloading can we determine the type of file, at which point the file's animation would become useless to us because it has already been fully downloaded.
To sum it up, it wouldn't turn out the same as this one. If we wanted to get it to work like this one, i'd have to have /everybody/ who wants to use the loading screen install a mod just to use it.
I made a javascript version of it before, but it didn't work so hot. The version of awesomium gmod uses is too old and garbage to handle it. It would cause the CPU usage to spike to 100% and would lag like balls.
You forgot the old gmod logo material.
Thanks, i've fixed it. It now uses the "icon16"'s from garrysmod to render the downloads, and i've included the old GMod logo. The link in the first post should be updated with a working copy.
Any idea when you could make it HTML compatable?
I love you.
OMG!!!!!! When Garry made this loading screen and just disappeared I said to myself, will I find a custom one on the internet? And I didn't. But now, my friend, I did it. And because of that, I love you
Noiiiice
Can you help me?I can't get it to work ,but I did find errors like these.I'm trying to figure out how to fix these.
Couldn't include file 'loading\progress.lua' (File not found) (@lua/includes/extensions/client/panel/scriptedpanels.lua (line 231))
Couldn't include file 'loading\downloads.lua' (File not found) (@lua/includes/extensions/client/panel/scriptedpanels.lua (line 231))
Try reading first.. [sp]You are missing progress.lua and downloads.lua, reinstall it.[/sp]
That music was edited in, right?
That music was edited in, right?
Of course it was :v
Neat. Thanks.
If I'm correct isn't this Garry's Mod 11? I thought the first loading screen was just a Derma window that showed in the middle of the screen listing the downloads.
This is awesome. It really brings back the good old days :)
I thought the first loading screen was just a Derma window that showed in the middle of the screen listing the downloads.
It still is.
Even the new menu is just a DHTML panel that goes fullscreen whilst loading.
The nostalgia! Now all we need is the nostalgia of actually decent servers!

There never was a Gmod 11, it went from 10 to 13.

No. GMod 1-9 were free; 10-13, including 11 and 12, were paid/updates to the paid version.

as if this is a downside
anyway, does this loading screen show exactly how many and which files are being downloaded? i assume it does from this thread but just confirming that, if so this is really cool to see again
Doesn't seem to work for current update?
Doesn't seem to work for current update?
Re-download it, updating replaced some of its files.

Remind me, when has Garry ever referred to previous versions as 11 or 12? Or which update named them as such?

Most threads from that era were auto-deleted from age, but this is an explanation of the versioning: http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1165103&p=34789461&viewfull=1#post34789461

So according to that guy gmod 11 & 12 came out on the same day?
http://www.garrysmod.com/history/
Edit: Then again, while looking about that thread you linked someone put a picture from Garry's Blog where he directly refers to it as Gmod 12.

Support for games != to engine changes. GMod can mount CS:GO but it's not on the same engine version. I don't know why GM11 and 12 aren't on that history page, but Garry has directly referred to them before in old threads.

Changes are overwritten every update, you'll probably need to re-install the loading screen every time there is a massive update to garrysmod due to the nature of steampipe.

Not like we get them often, not much to worry about.
