I thought I make this since it didn't seem like it be to difficult and since everyone seemed to be liking the game and such. Plus I like cartoony things in gmod and I felt it needed more of them. :v: I will update this as I go. Plus they haven't done anything to the other two mods that exist copying their game. Not to mention gmod has been doing this kind of thing since day one and I haven't heard of any sueing done because of that.

How do you think they will feel about that? Gmod does rip a lot of models from other games, but this is the first game copy I've seen.

And what about Goldeneye Source, Perfect Dark Source, Mario kart Source ?!? About Goldeneye Source I think it's the Only mod fully playable MultiPlayer Only and Soundtrack is faboulous, but RARE (Now Microsoft) didnt do anything at all... The only thing I've seen it's SBMX this Superbe game on PC who it's replaced now by nintendo "Super Mario Maker on the Wii U" Redigit say he have few lawers on him who said stop continuing this project...

Now there's the whole partner program if you want to monetize from it, but AFAIK you can still upload videos of their games if you don't make money from it.
If he's not making money off of it then it's fine. Put this on the workshop if you'll make it public, but just don't put it on ScriptFodder.

You can sugar coat it all you want. Doesn't make it any better. You can make a splatoon knockoff, but you can't use Nintendo's resources. You're going to get fucked.

They were made by Nintendo, but they were heavily edited(textures, creating the .mdl files) and the creators are giving credit to Nintendo and acknowledging that they intend to infringe no copyright and don't claim ownership in any way. I think Nintendo would take down the models, not the gamemode, should it actually happen anyways.

Also your not going to get "Fucked" they would just ask you to remove it via a DMCA notice or something of the likes.

Can you all stop making a thread about something creative and filling it with this? He won't get sue'd as long as they don't use ripped content, if he finds a modeller to make original stuff then he's fine. Like the FNAF models. As long as he doesn't sell it on scriptfodder he is fine, since he is NOT monetising a fan remake. It's like how mods can't really be sue'd for copyright since they aren't copying the original game but just making "fan modifications" to them.
I'm more concerned about the painting mechanic. From what I've read elsewhere on the forum, you are rendering the ink with decals, which, as you know, isn't scalable. The gamemode isn't feasible until you get the central mechanic working properly without performance issues. I've been pondering this same problem, as I have also thought about making a splatoon gamemode. However, I haven't announced anything, because I still don't have a workable solution. The best idea so far involves writing a custom shader. The biggest issue with that, however, is getting that shader to co-operate with the source engine. My first thought would be to override LightMappedGeneric, but source doesn't let you override the base shaders (at least, not by naming your shader LightMappedGeneric). Looking at Valve's other games, Portal 2's gels are pretty damn close to what would be needed. From what I can tell, due to the complexity of the gel shader, it is separate from LightMappedGeneric, and yet, is still able to act on world surfaces as if it were LightMappedGeneric. There must be some way to do it, but I haven't the foggiest idea how. Looking at TF2, there's the pryoland shader, which seems to be able to override both LightMappedGeneric and VertexLitGeneric on the fly, but again, I don't know how they are doing that. I've also thought about using a new shader that is based on LightMappedGeneric, but that would require all new materials, and make the gamemode incompatible with all existing maps. I've had an idea that involved rendering the map a second time with a material override, but then the shader wouldn't have access to the normal map used in the original material. There would likely be z-fighting issues as well.

I was talking to another guy on facepunch about the best way to do it. We have come to a conclusion on the the best two ways that it can be done, but I have yet to fully start on the second one. Its mainly because the ink system would depend on the map a lot, luckily though the maps wouldn't even be that big to begin with so this would help with optimization issues. (On a side note) --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I have decided I am gonna release this to the public definitely but when I will do that I don't know. I am debating on putting a github up for this so everyone can just work on it and such. Rate this post so I can see what people would like for me to do.
