Me and my mate are thinking of making a series of videos featuring the TF2 Heavy. We have some really good ideas but now we need to create the videos. What are the best video tools? Bare in mind that it will just be me and him making them.
FRAPS, Catmull cinmatic cameras (on Garrysmod.org), Vegas Pro (pro because no one likes 240 videos on youtube), and a lot of spare time.
All in all it really depends on the situation
Your mind :)
Fraps/Source recorder, and tons tons TONS of editing experience.
You don't need tons of editing experience to make a good machinima. But it helps.
The most important thing if you ask me is an understanding of basic film concepts such as angles, shots, and composition.
HAT Beta 4:
http://www.garrysmod.org/downloads/?a=view&id=115272
It's a fas and easy-to-use machinima tool wich gives you the ability to animate own animations onto ragdolls. Very usefull.
Cat-Mull Cinematic Camera:
http://www.garrysmod.org/downloads/?a=view&id=109201
A camera that you can deploy in the air, plug things onto and gives you a smooth camera movement also very usefull like when you want to record yourself or doing 2 things on the same time.
Sharpeye:
http://www.garrysmod.org/downloads/?a=view&id=109572
Gives you tunneling-view, relax mode and gives you an úber smooth (without camera shakes) when using slow motion. I recommend this tool alot!
Cinematic Preset 1.0:
http://www.garrysmod.org/downloads/?a=view&id=59860
Makes the screen/color filter look different like a ww2 color filter etc.
Very cool, looks much more realistic and cinematic badass!
Special Effects v1.5:
http://www.garrysmod.org/downloads/?a=view&id=59471
You can spawn fire in different sizes, smoke, glowing trails, everything.
Very effective when making war movies.
Improved Blood Textures:
http://www.garrysmod.org/downloads/?a=view&id=120211
The best blood texture out there, but I guess you want the TEam Fortress 2 blood...
No Collide World:
http://www.garrysmod.org/downloads/?a=view&id=112419
Make props go trough the world map. Can be very usefull when building a scene.
Slow Motion:

you know what this is...

Video editing software:
Sony Vegas PRO 1.0 - for an easy medium quality.
Adobe AFter Effects CS4/CS5 - Difficult but extremely high quality.
Cinema 4D r11.5/12 if you want to create a cool 3D intro.
Also made if you want to make better animations than Henry's HAT 4 animationer.

I choosed the ones that are the fastest to learn, myself are using After Effects cs4
Hmmm... I was just about to make a thread like this myself. Thanks for all those links, Devazzor!
Also another thing, I saw someone who could make ragdolls talk (Change faceposes and eyeposes) while using HAT, do you know how to do this? (You seem experienced =P)

You can change there faceposes and everything while using HAT, you just need to be more skilled on it but it works, also npc scenes are very useful but you can't make your own than.
And there are softwares out there that can make 3d models talk as the same as you talk on the microphone, you can compress it into half-life 2 sdk's but those softwares costs thousands of dollars and are very advanced but it's 100% quality.
SOURCE RECORDER

5. type in console: startmovie demoname avi .
6. select* a codec.

But don't use Catmoll-ROM camera if you're gonna use color filters in-game. SOmetimes it looks like shit and sometimes it doesn't work at all
