Dreamstate is actually my first attempt to create a dramatic film, as most/all of my other videos have focused more on action. It IS inspired by a few of Scoutking's "Suicide" short films, however I only got the inspiration to actually make the movie, as for the actual content of the movie, well, I did my best to approach it in the most original manner possible.

I thought it was well done, I loved the cinematography, but don't you think they way the people got shot looked a little goofy? That's what through it off for me

Yes.. Clint Mansell is just awesome.
And yes, I realize it looked a bit weird, but doing the entire thing by myself I couldn't do very much. Additionally, the gun used , when equipped on my own character, did not show up correctly with its world model, the world model was a bit off. Anyways, meh, I know what you mean. Thanks for the feedback
It was filmed pretty good, the one thing that was a bit weird, was the way the ragdolls flailed about when they got shot.

Decent from a mise-en-scène point of view, but the technical aspect is pretty bland, despite some effort to do otherwise. 4/5

Does a movie need multi-million dollar special effects to be good?
And as for the filters, I'm not aiming for a film-noir graphic novel feel to my videos, I tried to make it look somewhat similar to real life.
Any suggestions as to the filters I should have added?

I disagree. You don't need filters in everything, atleast not a filter which result in HEAPS and MOUNDS of defusion.
In Ghosts' case, it was needed because of the story, all ghosty and shit. The only color editing I do is studio color correction and maybe a little bit from the look suite.

Edit: Even so, thanks from every one of you for the feedback! On Youtube i'm getting very positive feedback average feedback on here (expected, facepunch is a much more demanding crowd), so I guess it goes to show I'm not completely inept at making dramatic shorts! :)

I thought we just spent the entire thread talking about how I didn't use filters because I don't like them. Lol.
Moon was fantastic though, it took a completely different approach than I thought it would, judging by the trailers.

I just realism I have not done a review yet.
Ill be honest I kind of liked it, it was... easy enough to say fumples best, a good 3.5/5, or average.
My only gripe is, the filters, the posing wasn't that bad, I don't judge on posing because i couldn't pose any better, the editing was good, IE the camera effects, but my only gripe again is filter. filters can set the mood and help you establish a good emotional tone. Im not saying make it all black and white, I say add color correction, make the colors more clear, then bring out the more colder colors seeing its dealing with a more darker mood.
All and all it wasn't original but it was decent.
Definitely a improvement.

Finally, a concrete review and critique of the film. Thanks, I will mess with the color corrector in later films. Provided I will know how to use it XD maybe some tutorials will help.

one, it tastes good, and every movie does need filters, the gmod colors are too bright and look ehh, im not saying making it all dark, but you can get ride of alot of... gmod flukes through a few filters.
Oh my god, this is just wonderful. Music is perfect, ragdoll posing was good, pacing was great... Just perfect almost. Shooting scene is obviously somethin to fix, but otherwise, I'm impressed.
Yes scout Im posting not too long after faolco but he sent me the link to this. Not everything needs a filter scout, and hell, sometimes the filter is what tends to ruin your films. Fumples, what you did was perfect, you don't need a filter for everything.
edit: Yeah, they can be used to an extent I mean, but, not all the time, they aren't always necessary.
