you gotta admit though, the majority of the hairstyles they've got would be pretty impractical for an airtight spacesuit. I mean, what if you're in space and the hair falls and blocks your vision? you'd be fucked.

yeah that is very true. Then again in a game/picture I only care about what looks good. Never been one for realism.
remember that blood reacts to light just like anything else. there is a tendency to think about things in simple terms, editing in what you think you know, in this instance: "blood is red". you've always got to keep in mind though that the overbearing lighting and atmosphere of your picture is more important and, in these lighting conditions, the blood wouldn't be that red
