It's hard to convey serious emotions like this when the thing I notice most about the picture is the poor AA.

I know you have been told about the shit graphics, but I'll just tell you what I have been told. When you are done posing/making the scene, just turn your settings all up anyway. Doesn't matter if you run like 5 fps, you only need 1 frame for the picture.
Try using some Post-Production effects to dramaticise the scene a bit more. Maybe some blood effects on the body and the kid and the floor to confirm the death.
