I know how to use the source recorder but while recording, if I am in a camera view, when I render it, the video show from my player's view. Is there a way to get around this? Thanks. I accidentally posted this in Screenshots and Movies rather than videos. Please don't ban me!
are you doing "startmovie name AVI? or "startmovie name raw" because you could be using the source recorder wrong.
that problem cant be fixed. even if you looking in camera and record it it will show the demo in first person view. your only option is to record it LIVE instead of recording it from demo.
Swirlyman, disregard everyone... Here is the solution: Go to first person, start recording the demo, THEN switch to camera view. If you record without using a demo, you won't have this problem. Also, when you create a demo, the beginning fades from black, so you might want to give it a few seconds before doing anything otherwise your videos will be darkened in the beginning.
What?! you say to record the demo when you won't get the problem without the demo? and thats what i mean just record without the demo. -.-
record "name" avi whilst ingame start with the camera off when returning to game quickly turn camera on
I don't compile the video in-game cause there will be quality loss. I use virtualDub

If you have an amazing computer which is able to handle max settings with lots going which requires your input and that does not lag while recording in 1080p, at 60fps, then you obviously wouldn't need a demo...however, for the rest of us, a demo will produce a better video.

I'm abit confused now if you ask me. :S
A lot of things in Gmod aren't compatible with the demo tool, don't even bother trying to use it
A lot of things in Gmod aren't compatible with the demo tool, don't even bother trying to use it
Well I just really wanted to use it because it gets rid of all lag (pretty much).
If you want to use cameras in source demos: 1. Go to first person. 2. Start recording demo. 3. Go to camera mode. 4. Do stuff. 5. End demo. 6. Play demo and record with source recorder. If you want to use Catmull-Cams in source demos: 1. Go to first person, record demo, then use Catmull-Cam. 2. Do stuff. 3. End demo and exit Gmod. 4. Go to addons folder and remove Catmul-Cams. 5. Startup Gmod, play the demo, record with source recorder. If you don't delete the folder, you'll get a bunch of errors.
Okay, thanks.
catmull-rom and normal camera tool will show up as first person when you play demo. thats what im trying to say trying to record from demo DOESN'T Work!
people stop using the demo.
people stop using the demo.
i would agree with you, but people have old shitty pc's that can't handle a realtime recorder like fraps. i would try WeGame, it doesnt lag as much as FRAPS
i would agree with you, but people have old shitty pc's that can't handle a realtime recorder like fraps. i would try WeGame, it doesnt lag as much as FRAPS
you use source recorder, demos are not source recorder or a effective way to use it.
people stop using the demo.

you use source recorder, demos are not source recorder or a effective way to use it.
I'm sorry but I use Source recorder demos all the time and I never have any of these issues that have been mentioned here, as Gunnanmon said you must start the demo and then switch to the camera that you want to use. It always works for me anyway... the only thing I can think of is that there is some other conflicting addon or lua script that is interfering with Source recorder in your version of Garrys mod.
...demos are not source recorder or a effective way to use it.
Wow. Never cease to amaze me.
catmull-rom and normal camera tool will show up as first person when you play demo. thats what im trying to say trying to record from demo DOESN'T Work!
Tonz... it does work, otherwise I wouldn't have posted a step by step instruction on how to do it.
source recorder demos are not that effective.
Well I just really wanted to use it because it gets rid of all lag (pretty much).
The Source recorder does, not the demo tool. [editline]10:58PM[/editline] Really, using demos is a waste of time, especially in Gmod -- Source Recorder will effectively slow down the action while you're recording, so you're even more accurate than in a demo. How'd you think I made Ghosts? Source Recorder only! No demos used AT ALL!
You can't switch to camera mode while playing demo...
I don't quite understand the difference between Source Recorder and demo...?
I don't quite understand the difference between Source Recorder and demo...?
source recorder, records real time, demo is playback. Some people (people who don't know how to use SR) record with the demo, then record the playback, the problem is, the playback gets corruptible easily, IE camera's dont work ect ect. now the other way, is you record real time, but instead of a AVI it records each frame as a TGA so basically you get every frame of what you recorder and a wav of the sound, you stitch this back together in a program Virtual dub, and you got high quality lag free, good FPS no matter how shitty your computer is. Demo is not source recorder in my opinion, Demo should be used to record in something thats not garrys mod, like tf2, you would record with a demo, and then use demo smoother to set up your camera angles ect ect. but this is gmod, we got tools for moving cameras, and effects and shit, you dont need to use demo smoother in gmod, so the most effective and easy less laborious way is to go the real time source recorder which is done this way. First type "sv_cheats 1" then "host_framerate 30" then "startmovie name raw" now the game may slow down, may run like its 15-20 frames, the reason behind this is because source is rendering each frame a TGA one by one, so when you film with SR you need to plan out your scene.
Alright, I'll try that see how that works for me. Thanks.

I'm getting sick of using fraps to record through a regular camera.
Another hint: Record the demo, then create the cameras. Always worked for me.
Another hint: Record the demo, then create the cameras. Always worked for me.
yes but if you waste hours on posing all the cameras right :P. you really want to set it up first...
Another hint: Record the demo, then create the cameras. Always worked for me.
by this do you mean demo smoother?
