it's what gives me the pretty light effect on screen, the model garry chose for lights makes it hard to hide

It seems kinda random, but next time use the Model Manipulator on it and change it to an effect so it's invisible but gives off the desired effect.

I really like those ME/Blacklight headhacks. Blacklight's art style is so much cooler than ME's.
