Really more of a test of Gimp editing, really. C&C would be appreciated.

It's a bit dark.
Yeah, it was kind of the result of the light and shadow editing. It's not too dark though, you can still clearly see everything.
Actually, no, I can't.
My laptop screen isn't the best calibrated and there's a lot of glare coming in through the window, but the picture is dark and lacking in contrast and that makes it very hard to see anything under these conditions.
Well... dang.
I'll try and get a more brighter picture up later.

I've made a brighter version, but I fear it's too bright. I got a better camera angle too.

Damnit, how could I forget to post it?

You've missed the main problem and created another one. The issue isn't contrast with the backdrop, that's fine. It's contrast within the foreground. Now you've made it even harder to make out by amping up the silhouette effect.
I...
I'm gonna go post an unedited version then.

Again, the bright background makes it even harder to see anything.
Here's how to fix it: select the foreground area and raise brightness and contrast. Don't touch the background.

Keep in mind though, this is just me on my laptop with the sun glaring off the screen. It might be easy to see on a non-glaring monitor.
Well, I did that, but I'm crap at doing stuff like selecting foregrounds.
Well, here's one made for rossmum. I hope it works.
