• Katuysha rocket system/MLRS project

First off: Moderators, if this needs to be somewhere else, feel free to move it accordingly. So, here's what I've got going: My current project, since Gcombat and spacebuold weapons don't seem to work for my horrible computer (no idea why, but that's another thread in itself) is to create a katuysha rocket system, which in today's warfare would be known as an MLRS, or Multiple Launching Rocket System. The premise is pretty simple: 1) find a target 2) load rockets 3) shoot rockets at target 4a) watch and laugh as your enemies scream like little girls and wet themselves at the sight of dozens of rockets hurling into their position OR 4b) Scream in terror as the projectiles go off course, land too short, and/or blow up IN THE LAUNCHER. So the basic idea is pretty simple. Here's my plan so far: -Use a Gbombs 20mm shell and thruster for projectile -PHX melon tube for...well, tube -District 9 APC for vehicle Now here comes the intersting part: As of now, my best option is to just use the wheel tool to place the rocket pods on top of the APC. This works great, until the obvious issue comes up: How to adjust vertical motion? I would be pretty screwed if I could only fire from five feet above the ground, in a straight line at that. What are your guys' opinions on this? How can I get a controllable arc to the pods, while using the bare stock Gmod tools? I'm still kind of new at buildig stuff. Most of my projects up to this point have just been really simple, kind of pointless stuff. It's up to you, facepunch!!! Also, if anyone is intersted, I can post pictures of the system in it's current stages tomorrow. Still pretty ghetto, but hopefully it'll get better. Also also, please forgive any spelling errors I might have missed. I'm writing this from my iPod.
honestly, this sounds terrible and i don't know why it has a thread. it would be different if you were actually building a functioning and well detailed M270 instead of using some shitty district 9 model.
Yeah, it would, except I dont have time to devote to that kind of thing. Sometimes simple is better, and in this case it is for me. I'm not some sup3r l33t model/coding expert. I'm just trying to have some fun.

Just a heads up that you're really better off building it out of props...it's far more satisfying as well.
Well I can understand that. I'll give it a shot, but the original question still stands. Also, I'm going to state right now that I cannot obtain ACF or anything else that uses an SVN. I'm stuck using my dad's computer until I can get the funds for my own, so that means pretty much little to no extra downloaded content. So I can probably use the PHX stuff for the vehicle body/tracks, but what about controlling the wheels and turret? I know I sound noobish, but it's been a long time since I've played Gmod. Thanks for the heads up about using pre-made vehicles and such.
so your dad monitors the hard drive space and your garrysmod folder? would he even know if you took up 100mb of that valuable hard drive space with acf?
so your dad monitors the hard drive space and your garrysmod folder? would he even know if you took up 100mb of that valuable hard drive space with acf?
Yes. We've got an older computer, 2003 I believe, that has very limited space which my dad watches like a hawk.
buy a fucking hard disk drive
I've got a 2007 machine with 1.5TB of HDD space. Soon, I'm going to spend £300 to upgrade it with 2009/10 components. Here's the kicker (you'll enjoy this); I'm a university student in debt with no income => technical limitations are not an excuse seriously even if your dad's on minimum wage he earns more than me Some input on OP though: use hydraulics for vertical motion and a wheel for horiz motion. Preferably, if you have a basic understanding of wiremod, go to the "Mosue Aim Turret" thread here and pick up a turret E2. If you don't have wiremod installed it's only 20MB and it's essential if you want to make anything decent these days.

...I thought the contraption forum was for showing off contraptions.
Okay, I'll try and rephrase this: It's not the money issues. He is just super paranoid when it comes to downloading ANYTHING off the internet. So I suppose that if this thread is just going to turn into a hate-fest, lock and bury this sumbitch.
This isn't a hatefest when did this become a hatefest Calm down a little and come back when you're ready to take advice from us, because so far this thread has been a defensive brick wall. If you want to do things your way then why make the thread? (fyi cantido, contraptions discussion.)

My previous computer was so ancient it barely played garrys mod at all and I only had dial-up for awhile. And yet, somehow, I managed to download the entire goon svn. Imagine that. Even on my 300MHz packard bell I used to have that wouldn't even play RA2 past 3fps, I STILL wouldn't bat an eyelash over 150mb. Your dad's being a control freak. It has nothing to do with the damn computer. And if he still freaks, change the links on all his desktop icons to "hai2u". [editline]5th April 2011[/editline] goatse, tubgirl, or links to any other shock site work too.
Alright, taking a breath here. Calm, calm calm, happy place... I guess the reason I don't want to try and download anything is because, well, it's not worth the stress and inevitable hostility that it would generate between him and me. Most of it comes from some previous issues we had with my brother, who was an idiot and thought that the magical link to "Free music for ipods" was legit. Now I get to deal with the after-effects of that. I apologize if I came across like a prick, really. I guess that I'll just have to live with not having the sort of technological freedom that you guys evidently have. So I guess that's pretty much the end of this project. If anyone wanted to offer some advice anyway (for the actual contraption itself, that is) I'd be very appreciative. @Splambob: Thank you for the info. I'll try to run with what I can get ahold of.
Deception 101:

Buy external HDD
Install GMod on HDD
Download everything to the HDD
If Dad finds the HDD say that it can't give the computer viruses because it uses a different filesystem or has a one-way wire something that sounds technical
???
Welcome to the club.
On a more serious note, you could try putting him at ease by downloading (lol) a reputable virus scanner and scanning everything you download. It's a damn shame when people refuse to listen to logic. Good luck.
Thanks. Hopefully we'll just run this piece of junk into the ground until it dies, and then invest in a better system.
2003, why are you even trying to play GMod on it? Just wait until you get something better.
That is a very, very good question...
2003, why are you even trying to play GMod on it? Just wait until you get something better.
I played Gmod on a pc from 1998, it worked fine till a heatwave rolled in and nearly fried the graphics card.
Ah the joys of the days when playing gmod on under-minimal spec were normal
I've run gmod just fine on my desktop, which consists of hand-me-down parts coming from my brothers. Most date between 2000 and 2004. I'm finally going to build a new one though, and turn that one into a server so I can stop using Xenon.
