Well I have seen these several times and I am not quite sure how people do this. Only way I can really think of is easyprecision ballsocket with inset -50% but when I tried it it put the ballsocket way out past the ball. Is there a tutorial for this? I googled gmod ball wheel tutorial but it just didnt give me anything.
Do you have Wenli's tools? Ballsocket center is what you want
Instead of trying to put the ball in the prop, try putting the prop in the ball. Easy precision -50 will work that way.
Ballsocket center, it can set the center of any prop. And has many commands, like x y and z limits and more.
oh, btw. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lsboKXN1Y4w
Yep, ballsocket linedraw.
just to notify, you need to make that centre ballsocket from the ball to prop, instead of the original way.
Only time I pulled this off without specialist tools was using rigid ropes and the hollow sphere from phx
Baaalls of wheels! Wheels. Wheels. Wheels!
Baaalls of wheels! Wheels. Wheels. Wheels!
change of with as and it fits well :v:
As others said, Ballsocket linedraw and Ballsocket center. In most cases ballsocket center is better when you want it centered because it doesn't rely on smartsnap setting and will thus mostly be 100% accurate. If you don't want it to be centered you should use ballsocket linedraw instead.
Personally I find Percision alignment to be most accurate. Apply a ballsocket from the wheel's mass centre to another point. It just seems to be most accurate to me, I've seen the others be a tad off.
Something keeps bugging me. Yeah, ball wheels, but is there any way to turn, steer, or even strafe whit a set of ball wheels ? I mean, it has much a bigger surfice than a regular wheel and yeah, it's a ball. And the question : Is there any contraption mode or tool which can turn simple ball into an all porpuse wheel ?
I made an i-robot-esc ball-wheeled sedan :v: The trick for me was using e2 to control the way the car moved with applyforce that canceled sideways movement when I wanted to drive like a normal car but had a mode where it became mouse-aimed and could also strafe (For easy parallel parking :downs:)

Ball wheels won't really have realistic (via wheel driven) driving capabilities unless you use E2. Thrusters attached to the balls wouldn't make it work properly.
Yeah, you'd want to applyTorque to the balls along the vehicle's left and right axes for forward/backward motion and along the vehicle's forward/backward axes for left/right motion.
I tried out the linedraw tools. For the control I used advenced pod controller and multiple thrusters. They worked. I spawned a 4x2 phx plate atached some thrusters on that, then used ballsocket linedraw to attach the ball wheels. I love my balls. :w00t:
Ball wheels + I,Robot vehicles = win
hmmm, maybe someone will make the irobot audi?
