Dragoshi's Pic Collection - Garry's Mod

[b]~~I have been doing Gmod pics since I first came here, and I already did a compilation thread, but it was more of a month of pics, not all time. So, I dug through my deviant gallery and found all of the pics that are noteworthy(besides my mingebag poses from way back when). So, enjoy my mediocre picture posing and editing, you'll see some that are old and some newer ones. I still have a ways to go to improve. The Wall-E one isn't shef'ed because I used Mrwhitefolk's tutorial, but as you see it looks...meh. I don't have any good editing tutorials, so I'm now sad.

Meh editing tutorials are overrated. Just practice, practice, practice! If you're too scared to try anything new then you will never get past SHEF. The main tools in your arsenal should be the pen tool for isolating and then dodge and burn. You pretty much don't need anything else in terms of lighting. Experiment with dodge and burn, accentuating existing shadows and highlights (this is very easy on clothing, as an example) and dodge and burn where shadows would naturally fall (under arms, behind weapons, under helmets etc). As a general rule of thumb, (although these parameters apply for GIMP, they won't be far off in PS) don't use over 50 exposure for burning or over 20 for dodging (you might need to turn the opacity down for dodging as well). After that, a useful way of making these shadows and highlights stand out further is to duplicate your background layer (once all of the other layers are flattened) and then set the new layer to "overlay". Most of the time you will need to turn the brightness up and the contrast way down here because it will be too much. Then mess around with colour-balance on this layer to get some atmosphere into your picture. That, for me, is the best way to get good shading and lighting into a picture. ... effects? That's another lesson entirely. :P Hope this helps a little.
