Digging the really crisp foreground and blurred background.

The muzzleflash is small but well executed. I don't think size is a problem (no phallic reference intended).

I like the really red/orange colour scheme and the contrast.

In my opinion, if your going to put an unrealistic ball of fire in front of the gun, go big. (personally I like smoke with a hint of sparks)
