I hope the slice looks convincing.
C&C
He's doing a shitty job.
Actually looks like the knife is slicing, knife job. :v:
holy crap, that looks painful!
Great work
I'd rather die in that situation
Really amazing concept. Great posing.
Yaiks. I winched. Nice work.
Serves his ass for not wearing a goddamn helmet :v:
But yeah, totally agree with Chesty.

Are the phosphorus chunks convincing? The smoke better be 3d-ish.

I was thinking of adding another helmet to the side but I'm too lazy to make a crack.
Does SDoF work with moving smoke emitters in the background?
Fuck, I winced
Great concept, awesome posing
ouch.
i don't like the phong, but that's hardly your doing; solid work.
Willy peter runin' yo' day since nam bitches.

yeah i've been wanting to release my blacklight models with super improved textures but SOMEONE (egevened) is the only one with it now and he won't fuckin give it back
Did you get the idea from We Were Soldiers?
That's really damn good.
he's cutting around the meat....
You cut deeper to meet the phosphorus, otherwise it may burn through further.

hahahah well done, how did that happen
he's cutting around the meat....
phosphorous burns until it runs out of oxygen. the only way to put it out is to starve it of such, or remove whatever it's about to burn through next. the moment it is exposed to oxygen again, it ignites again. it's horrible stuff, but it has a lot of uses - tracers, artillery marking, smoke shells. it's great for apers work too, if you're a total cunt.
Never truly understood white phos' grenades but I do know its quite the hazardous element.
Looks great Caboose, woulda made a bit longer comment but Fort's avatar keeps distracting me and I forgot what I was gonna say.
hahahah well done, how did that happen
funny story bro
finally spent about two grand upgrading my computer (INITIALLY I meant to spend under one grand but it just kinda happened. you know -- fuck it -- just go all-out. i'm not a poor, jobless student like most of the losers here) and just as i did my old one puked out
just been too lazy to install the old hard drives haha
Sounds fucking painful, good job!

oohhhhh, i know that one. one day my pc - parts of which i'd had for over ten years, i just upgraded it periodically and never got round to getting a new one - finally crapped out hard. the mobo was fried and so i thought "well fuck it". took some mates who know about computer hardware (i don't) down to a wholesale place in sydney, left with an assortment of large boxes and a $1,200 hole in my bank account. in hindsight, i probably didn't need to buy a new case and monitor, but fuck that. 22" widescreen owns bones. i spent like the first three days just plugging in one hdd at a time (we're talking ancient hdds, one was 40gb just to give you a clue) and copy-pasting everything across, since my new mobo didn't have enough dinosaur slots for them. fun times.

free lesson because i'm in a decent mood and i need to kill time:
wp initially entered use as an artillery marking and smoke agent, because it forms a dense, white smoke as it burns and also forms a very distinctive splash-like residue on the ground as it hits. this could be seen easily from the air or from an artillery fop, so wp shells would be used to estimate correct elevation and windage settings for the guns before opening up with the shell of choice. obviouisly it's been rendered obsolete in this role by things like gps-assisted gun laying and some other things a gun number would rant on for hours about, but fuck you ask one of them. i'm in the infantry and don't give a shit.
second use, smoke, is still a big one. the smoke is quite dense and so it settles too fast to be effective for infantry - plus the whole 'BURN YOUR FUCKING SHIT TO THE BONE' thing - so it's often relegated to smoke rounds for guns, mortars, or tank grenade projectors, which fire airburst wp rounds up in front of and above the tank. these explode downwards to form a thick screen. i THINK wp is still used to this end but i could be wrong, again, this is outside my job description.
wp saw a lot of use in the apers role in ww2, especially by british mortar crews. it had such an effect on morale that german troops were known to just shoot captured mortar crews on the spot if they were found with wp rounds, i don't really blame them. it causes third degree chemical burns - which means they're easily infected. you need to be really careful removing it too, because the moment it hits oxygen, it kicks off again. oh, and the vapour can fuck you up after prolonged exposure. don't take this as gospel but i heard tell of it destroying connective tissue, particularly in the jaw.
there were also a few rather funny tales of german tanks (particularly the larger ones, king tigers et al) being captured by the yanks after firing wp rounds at the air vents. smoke gets sucked in, crew thinks they're on fire, crew bails and leaves perfectly good tank.

oh yeah and phosphorous of various colours is what actually makes tracers trace, there's a small amount in the base of the bullet itself which obviously ignites on contact with air. it takes a split second though, so as a general rule it's about 100m from the muzzle before it lights up

haha this sounds just like me right now
yeah my computer is from 2001 and every minor upgrade here and there was all I needed to keep going until I finally got fed up of not being able to do any of the things I WANTED to do (which, honestly, I haven't done yet. fuck)

yeah so anyways... decent picture, i guess. whatever.
there are few feelings as good as the one you get as you launch every game you own just to max out the settings, even if you never play it again
This thread is very informative
I never knew such much about white phosphorus.
yeah it's nasty as fuck but really interesting. also that usefulness is probably the main reason it's still legal to use, although using it apers is a bit of a grey area and anyone who does it is liable to be labelled by the international community as a tremendous cunt
WOO HOO! INFO!

Wow, thanks for all the info. Rated informative.
Very informative about the Whilly Pete.
And I also detect a We Were Soldiers reference here.
