The plot for Beyond Borders is starting to thicken. For the next seven weeks (maybe just every few days :v: ) I'm going to release a character image of some significant characters in the story line. To start off I'm going to be posting pictures of the seven elite resistance fighters known to most rebel contingents as "Garner's Commandos". Their roles in the Beyond Borders storyline will remain a mystery, for now :)
Feel free to view the comic thus far to get an idea for what I'm working on:
Lead by Major Garner himself, this commando unit was made up of 50 of humanities most skilled, most deadliest and most rugged men and women resisting the Combine Occupation. The unit was formed during the early years after the 7 Hour War by ex-British Spec Ops Lieutenant, William Garner. Using his near infinite amount of experience and skills, self-titled "Major" Garner taught men and women how to wreak defiant havoc on the Combine. Not everyone could become a Commando however and so only fifty commandos in the 10+ years the unit has existed ever formed. With almost impossible expectations, the unit could not replace casualities and instead trained even harder to increase their destructive force while minimalising manpower and resources.
The Commandos are not without controversy however as their brutal and remorseless killing of Combine personnel (sympathizers included) have lead resistance fighters and rebel intellectuals to remark that the Commandos are nothing more than a "band of ruthless mercenaries and psychopaths who have become the very thing they fight to overthrow. Without question, mankind has a shadow of doubt cast over itself as we display the same slaughter that was once imagined to be capable only at the hands of the Combine."
Today only seven commandos remain and they consider themselves the most elite of the unit. "Garner's Commandos" work very closely with Colonel Odessa Cubbage and Dr. Theoney Ruiz
I was thinking an elite group of gardeners fighting against gnomes.
But this is great too.
You've been gone a while.
The picture is pretty good. Nice atmosphere although the burning just looks lazy in places.
Love the back story. The screenshot is equally polished.

Thanks, I'll admit the burning was an after thought. Good eye in that regard!

Thank you, a lot of inspiration is made true thanks to your skins. In fact, many of your skins/models have been and will be used in this comic.
Specifically Administrator Gallahan, to name one. I look forward to the updated skin/model that you are working on :)
Thanks everyone
Nice story and pic.
Looking forward to the next issue. :D
Always good to see some new Half-Life 2 pictures.
what the fuck is beyond borders
oh wait now I remember it was that comic you made 6 or 7 parts of and then it just got dropped like a bad habit.
what the fuck is beyond borders
I think the title has a second meaning, one about the picture... and its borders.

Far from dropped especially since there is a ton of effort being put into the series. "Good" comics take time. There are a ton of reasons why these comics take so long to produce and anybody who has ever created a comic knows what I'm talking about.
You've been around long enough to understand that.
Besides, I'm dedicated to at least finishing Beyond Borders before I give up Gmod. I don't even pose for fun any more. Most pictures are done in relation to/or direct shots from the comic.
Interesting, haven't been around here long enough to know what this is, but my gut says it'll be pretty cool. Looking forward to it.

True fuckin' that
I wanted to make a comic, but I always end up spending like 4 hours editing every picture so there's no way I'm gonna be able to do it.

You know, maybe I should just put links to all the current episodes since I was able to put together ALL episodes thus far...
Look back up top in a few minutes and you can view the comic.

I think you should give it a shot anyway. It can be pretty fun to tell a story with cool visuals! It's like making a movie :v: and when you think about it, making a comic seems to hold more weight in terms of accomplishment (in my opinion at least) than just doing the occasional image.
Hm I know what you mean. I think working on a story from scratch as part of a big artistic project would look good in a portfolio too... I'll go for it. Thanks, man.
I like the burning and shading a lot, reminds me of them old serious comics from phw and such.
jim can you upload all your comics somewhere they're not liable to go down
i still have a fuckload of catching up to do from when i went awol for like a year and a half
jim can you upload all your comics somewhere they're not liable to go down
Do you have any suggestions for places I could upload them :( ?
I'm still stuck in 2006, using imageshack :v:
Dropbox :)
And nice pose as well as nice comic.
dropbox works i guess
i just use my (dead) site's ftp for literally everything - no hassles with size/res limits, compression, ads, any of that bullshit. nice and fast too, or at least it is for me.
