I prefer the original, i like it.

The blur is way too strong and everything is way too soft.
I like the edited one.
The pose of the gunner makes the entire tension of the image. Doesn't feel like an image trying to be as good as possible, but an image from a camera man who where there, and that's way better for these things.
If I were you I'd make some scratches on the side of the Sherman and even dirt on the tracks if you got the time for details. Also fix the blur on the dead soldier as his relation to the ground makes it feel 'out-of-place'.

A few impact sparks on the hull of the tank wouldn't hurt, either. You can almost [I]feel[/I] the tension in this shot.
Updated the pic with some of the advice posted here + more stuff I thought about. What do y'all think ? I'm not really a fan of the tracers but I guess they're passable.

I wanted to add that actually but I couldn't find for the life of me a good, useable pic to paste on the pic, and I really don't know how to make sparks myself.
The paintings look photoshopped and unmounted
The original one looks a lot better, just because it looks less photoshopped
