Can someone explain exactly what tickrate is, what a good tickrate should be, and is it related to high usage restarts on NFO?
Tickrate it's the frames per seconds that server uses, with higher tickrate, your server will have more precision on traces like weapons or stuff like that, but will cause a higher ping If your server requires too many traces, like a real fps game, you will need to use a higher value, like 66, if your server it's just roleplay, just use 33, like left 4 dead does since precision it's not that important
Framerate = client, can lag with too much stuff being done per frame Tickrate = server, can lag with too much stuff being done per tick Neither are static and can fluctuate. The tickrate values that you should use with Source are 16, 33, 66, and 128. The higher the tickrate, the more precise but intensive traces and stuff done in Tick hooks will be. Typically, for gamemodes that require fast precision like Deathrun, BHop, and Surf, you'll want to use 66. For anything else, 33 will work just fine, although you may experience a little bit of drag with vehicles which are trace intensive.
Thanks that actually helped a lot.
