The difference between addon format and nonaddon format.

My question is very simple. What is the difference between addon format and non addon format in terms of structure?

is it just that the addon format files are all in one file? rather than spread out throughout the garrys mod folder.?

In addon format, the entire addon is contained in the addons folder, while the 'non-addon' format has the files spread across their relative directorys - data , lua , materials etc

so, in order to turn the non addon format into addon format, id just put them all into one folder?
