Differences between GMOD Lua and normal Lua?

I set up GMOD Lua for Notepad++, and i'm wondering why you would need to set up another language called GMOD Lua for Notepad++ when Lua is right on there on the menu as well. Are there any differences between GMOD Lua and normal Lua I should know about?

Lua doesn't have all the functions gmod uses. Like, hooks, half of the libraries, etc.

By default // and /* aren't comments, || and && aren't operators, there are some other differences but I am unsure of what else they are.
