• Fully functional Portal Swep

Would it be possible for anybody to make a fully working handheld portal device that works with the current garrys mod version? i've noticed that every single one on garrysmod.org either doesn't work, or is missing textures etc.
Well you do know that there's a reason why Portal is a seperate branch of the source engine right? Portal has changed loads of stuff in the actual engine to make it work properly and smoothly. While they've succeeded, the same effort would be required to get it into this engine. And unless someone makes a module that breaks every source engine update, or finds hacky workarounds like mahalis did back in the day, it's not going to happen.
The HPD that Mahalis was working on was the only one that came close to the current version, but due to engine limitations he couldn't complete it (or something along those lines) and has stopped working on it completely AFAIK The work required to make a working portal gun is absolutely insane. I don't think people realize just how complicated it is. It's not something that can be completed at whim.
Mahalis did give up on the project, like you said, there is just too much work to keep it functional with all the gmod and source engine updates. The best option is to wait until an update allows the HPD to be ported directly into gmod. (which most likely will not happen unless gmod is moved to the portal-source engine) edit: However AFAIK(reading some comments), mahalis's HPD is actually functional, but is only missing the visual (and audio) aspect. If someone wants to take this on it might just work.
As far as I'm concerned, without being able to look through the portals, they're worthless - thats one of my favorite aspects about them. And you're correct, you can't port the HPD to gmod directly without switching to that engine, but that won't happen because it's a side engine that wont be updated with the rest. Meaning if garry moved gmod to that engine, there would be no more updates (unless they update Portal 2). That and the work required to do so is probably insane.
