So i have had the idea of creating a minimap (done many times before by others) and i want to know how i would go about doing this.

Im confused on what your even talking about. What im trying to do is create a minimap in the top corner of the screen.
You better have a lot of LUA knowledge before you attempt doing this...

This makes no sense at all, how the hell can we tell you how to go about it if we don't even know what your idea is...

Extract the addon and have a look in the code.
This should give you some advices on where to start and which functions are useful etc.
