trying to replace the normal fire effect with custom particle

so i need to know, how do i get the custom particle effect to replace the normal one? do i just rename it to "Fire.pcf" or "Flame.pcf" or do i have to set it to or..? this is my first time with source particle editor so im probably going to have more problems soon
