If someone could please help me with learning the basics of LUA that would be amazing! I have tried watching the tutorials on youtube but I still can't grasp it. I have come to my final suggestion which is... I am willing to pay someone as long as they help me with learning and creating my first simple gamemode w/ lua coding. The tutoring would take place on the computer (of course :P) and via Skype/Screensharing. If you are willing to embark on the journey please contact me. Thanks Y'all:D -Chewy Skype: http://www.skype.com/intl/en/download/skype/windows/ Steam Id: Schwumper E-mail: Mcbolts@gmail.com
I'm sorry, but you created a contract for helping you learn lua? First stop, the GMOD Lua wiki: http://wiki.garrysmod.com/?title=Lua Second stop, Programming in Lua 1st edition: http://www.lua.org/pil/index.html It's really quite simple, and your wasting your time with making a contract...

You don't learn Lua by reading, you learn it through application. Make a gamemode mod or something.
Add somebody on the forums to your steam friends list and ask questions.
^ Preferably that guy since he suggested the idea ^
Lol! I know the best way is to just start off by making a gamemode but I am retarted, i dont know how!!!! Please can someone help? I am paying after all [editline]01:07PM[/editline]
Add somebody on the forums to your steam friends list and ask questions.
Whats your steam id?
What's the pay?
A better question is, how old are you?
Search for my name in the steam community player search, I should be the only one using it. Also, I recommend not starting with a game mode.
i told you!!! I am retarded!! I cant work like that! Psshhh reading? Id rather pay for help
It's not just about trudging through pages and pages of written material trying to soak it in. Learn a little bit of Lua from those links, throw together a simple script like a hello world, look into more areas, build up your knowledge. It often helps to look at other people's scripts to see how they did something. Just practice at it, you learn more by doing than by reading.
I learn stuff by thinking of something I would like to do or I need to do, or something to automate, then learn everything I need to learn to make the thing I want to make. Like megajohnny said, you don't just read pages and pages of tutorials and stuff, you do stuff.
Just think of something cool, I mean maybe a script that finds a persons steam id. Just don't stop until you've completed it, ask on the forums for help, look at the wiki, etc.
I agree with what several have said here. A gamemode is a large piece of work with many parts...complicated. Start with small functions. I started out with finding a mod I liked that was broken (I think due to it's age) Though never released, I fixed it for myself. Find a small function you want for yourself. Or, another good way, find a mod you like but think it would be better with feature <x>, add feature X yourself. Though tutorials are a great help, you'll learn more by doing, and won't cost you a cent but time.
You learn better by looking at tutorials Chewy save your money and your ass and go read. Then when you really need our help, you can pay us to help you. At least try and read from the wiki code up snippets of lua code lua_openscript_cl autorun/client/hud.lua or something then you will get use to it. http://wiki.garrysmod.com/wiki/?title=Lua_Tutorial_Series http://www.lua.org/pil/ http://www.lua.org/manual/5.1/manual.html
