Unicode characters already work with copy/paste and fonts. The string library is unchanged, instead of string.len you can use utf8.len (which will return nil if given invalid UTF-8 data!).
You can force a string to contain only valid UTF-8 data with the utf8.force function.

It's the same thing except utf8.codes has been changed to correctly implement Lua 5.3's behaviour. If you've got mine installed for whatever reason, you'll hit incompatibilities (unless you managed to install it within the last 18 hours).

Are serious? This broke all of my Alien Swarm pack. Just revert the change or fix it. This just messed up a lot of things dude
EDIT: The following games now have pink and black textures: Alien Swarm, Portal 2, Zombie Panic!, Counter Strike: GO (Not all, but all ragdolls are gone), Dino D Day (Half of them), and Left For Dead 2. Some addons now have random black and pink textures as well. I am getting a lot of reports (Especially on my Alien Swarm SNPCs) that people are having the broken texture problem. Please either revert this change until you find a fix or fix it.
I am not trying to be rude but how do you end up breaking more then you fix in every update? Also, do you even test your updates before releasing them? Everyone in the community agrees that you break more then you fix. Maybe it would be possible to add more people to the team? Or even work really hard just to make a stable update and leave it alone so people such as myself will stop bitching about everything getting broken?

Because it's active regardless. This is a stock server, and the notification still appears, with no gameevent.Listen triggering it.
