Fretta (which is 'hurry' in Italian) is a gamemode base which aims to make the production of gamemodes a quicker and easier thing to accomplish. It contains a lot of out of the box features such as teams (with menus), classes, round handling, and voting.
It is based on the same principles as Rambo_6's Simple Games Base, which had a very nice voting system where you could vote on what gamemode and map you wanted, and acts as a core feature of Fretta.
The original thread has been closed by the new automatic thread closer garry's put up. So use this to continue dicussion of Fretta and its respective gamemodes. Please try and keep general Lua help out of this unless it's to do with Fretta.

What happend to "Crowbar fight" ?
What happend to "Crowbar fight" ?
It was never submitted to me or Rambo so it wasn't uploaded.
I'll try and get cactus done soon.
Steve do you mind if I PM you with a few questions about setting up my server? You seem to know alot about Fretta and coding...
Also a good server is BlackOp's Fretta server. The ip is 69.162.73.190:27016. It's located somewhere in the US.
If you can't work it out from the normal beta instructions you're not fit for hosting a Gmod beta/Fretta server.
I've got a new gamemode on the way, it's looking cooler by the second. :3:
Hopefully this gamemode i'm doing ( along with Zombie Onslaught ) will kind of help show how you can make a source-mod style game with relative ease using fretta. Rather than spend a billion hours getting a mod team together and spending 10 years fucking with the SDK you can just get someone to give you a few models/textures and do the rest in Lua.
on that note i need someone who's good with simple photoshop stuff. i need a few icons

Well I got it running and people were coming and going and enjoying it, but the problem was newcomers who were coming and not loading the downloaded files properly. They got the map and downloaded the gamemode files, but those files weren't loading. All their textures were purple and black. Well either way it doesn't matter, I'm probably not going to host it anymore cause I dont feel like trying to figure it out. :\
Oh and I wasn't running the beta Gmod and at one point people were coming and going without a problem. Maybe I'm still not fit to run one. ;|

It kinda failed because it was my first gamemode (however I could still submit it if you want to try it out with other players, but I don't think it will be chosen often in the vote thingy). I'm making a complete recode of Fortwars which isn't gonna fail, with the oh so original name: FortwarsX!
Here's a teaser.

As long as all the props aren't all destroyed within 30 seconds of gameplay, it'll be a lot better than the original.
And as long as you can't pick each other up :P
Oh, and no spawning props underground either xD
As long as all the props aren't all destroyed within 30 seconds of gameplay, it'll be a lot better than the original.
If you take a closer look at the picture, you'll see that the prop has 18828 health, which means it's gonna take a while before it's destroyed :v:

Both fixed. Prop spawning works a bit different than normal, it's duplicator style but you can also place them on walls and they'll get aligned with the hit normal.
What do you need?
I will draw up some icons in paint for a rough idea as soon as i figure it all out. :c00l:
Could you submit it please?, i would love to have a mass crowbar fight.
Please add this russian fretta server:
91.203.64.5:27027
This is new 16-slots server instead 93.153.188.72:27015

Yea thanks we all know it sucked. To be honest i'm surprised it lasted as long as it did.
Crowbar Fight is now on the SVN
Great.
I'm having problems with FortwarsX. I have no clue how to make a spawnmenu. Any one knows how to make one?
I tried this and nothing happened at all.[lua]
function GM:PlayerBindPress( ply, bind, pressed )
if ( string.find( bind, "lastinv" ) and !spawnmenu ) then
spawnmenu = vgui.Create( "DFrame" )
spawnmenu:SetSize( 256 + 10, 300 )
spawnmenu:Center()
spawnmenu:SetDraggable( false )
spawnmenu:SetBackgroundBlur( true )
spawnmenu:ShowCloseButton( false )
spawnmenu:SetTitle( "Prop Chooser" )
spawnmenu:SetVisible( true )
spawnmenu:MakePopup()
local spawniconM = vgui.Create( "DPanelList", spawnmenu )
local dist = 5
spawniconM:StretchToParent( dist, 23 + dist, dist, dist )
spawniconM:EnableVerticalScrollbar( true )
spawniconM:EnableHorizontal( true )
spawniconM:SetSpacing( 0 )
local model = self.Weapon:GetNWString( "Model", "" )
button = {}
for i = 1, #PropList do
button[i] = vgui.Create( "SpawnIcon" )
local model2 = PropList[i]
button[i]:SetModel( model2 )
button[i].DoClick = function( butt )
spawnmenu:Close()
spawnmenu = nil
end
spawniconM:AddItem( button[i] )
end
end
end[/lua]
Well, for mine I have a table and just create spawn icons (with the same var name) over and over using table values. I would give an example, but all my code is at home :(

But how would I do it like the sandbox spawnmenu, holding Q shows it, and releasing Q hides it?

Thank you :buddy:
Perhaps I'm missing the point of Fretta, but how does it make it easier to code gamemodes? You can add hooks to many things related to changing the gamemode, but...is that it?
Also, from what I've played with Fretta, all Fretta does drag gamemodes down to the point where they have to be playable in 5 minutes or less. Doesn't it basically destroy the whole idea of gamemodes that require longer periods of time to play (such as RP or Stranded, or Old Age)?

If it destroys those types of gamemodes, I'm happy. However, you are completely missing the point of it. It does indeed make gamemode development a tad easier, and makes it so users can vote for what they want to play rather than being restricted. The time limit is defined by the gamemode.
Maybe you should have looked into it before posting.

Besides this and the original Fretta thread, there's only but so much info, and I'm not going to dig through threads. Sorry.
Anyway, it seems like Fretta is more of an addon then a gamemode base per say; it allows the server to change through gamemodes by voting and allows addons to utilize this, but you don't really build off of Fretta in the sense that it's the foundation of your gamemode.
Or maybe I'm just splitting hairs. I've really only played it on the BlackOps server, but if you can make it where there's no auto-gamemode switch then I can agree with that.
Further, what do you have against gamemodes that can't be over in five minutes? As I said, many successful gamemodes are really fun, like Stranded, RP, and even Sandbox. You attack DarkRP a good deal, but it really is a good gamemode.
You do build your gamemodes on Fretta, it IS a base. It gives a bunch of code that most every gamemode needs, plus extra stuff that enhances a gamemode(like the voting), so it's a lot faster to write a gamemode (hence Fretta meaning "hurry" in Italian).
Everyone likes different things, not everyone enjoys Stranded, RP, and even Sandbox.
