CoderHire is closed; Return of the 'Coder for Hire Mega-Thread?'
29 replies, posted
So, as I'm sure quite a bit of you have noticed, CoderHire closed down. Now this poses a big question for both Lua Developers and people looking to hire:
What do!?
So, what will it be people?
Return to the Mega-Thread?
or
Create a new topic for every job!
Personally, I'm caught at an impass for what to do. Creating a new thread for each problem would just spam the shit out of the forum and I'm sure nobody wants that ( ;p)
Opposing is the return of the Mega-Thread which seemed to do OKAY at its job, but created problems with Scammers and nobody was quite sure if the job was taken or not.
I would like to say "I told you so", to so many people right now, as when this was presented I was against the Idea; However, I was lured in by it and grew to like it( except for when I just missed a job by 10 minutes! )

Posting new threads is against the sticky rules.
The megathread was messy and didn't work very well, that being said I didn't use it so I'm not one to speak ( getting pushed around by autistic 10YO server owners wasn't my cup of tea ).
A damn shame!
The old hiring thread should serve us for now.
If anything, some friendly member could make a special separate forum for this kind of thing?
Just tossing ideas.
Oh god why
CoderHire(the site) closed because it was badly made and had lots of flaws, once people pointed them out in the thread CoderHire(the member) broke down in tears and closed the site.

Regardless, what is the solution?
The old hire thread left old posts in the dust pages behind. Definitely not efficient.
Read the sticky

Either megathread or a sub-forum.
I think everyone would prefer the megathread.

I definitely disagree, a sub-forum would be much more efficient if it had the ability to tagged posts as "job taken" and "job completed", similar to how you can tag posts as "solved" when you ask for help.

I just thought that most people wouldn't want 90% of the threads of the Lua section to be hiring threads.
Sounds good though to have a sub-forum.
jacooe had a site for hiring too, but that doesn't seem to be up anymore as well. I might have to get off my lazy ass and make a site.
edit - I am going to try and set something up, it may take time, though. I will probably be using iCoder.subdomaincuzimcheap.com or something of the sort.
OH WHY WOULD HE CLOSE IT
"Lucky" me was just about to donate
Perhaps a lua hiring section might be a good idea but it's up to Garry what happens in the end.
How about he release the code and me or someone else hosts it.

You need to create a megathread.
You need to create a megathread.
Honestly, I would of done so already, but I fear being banned for breaking a rule I don't know about.

Never said sell.
Honestly website like that wouldn't take to long to recreate if someone were committed. CoderHire was real basic and from the outside appeared almost bare bone like as if he had left room for lots of future features and upgrades.
Why wouldn't he give away the code? In any case, it would be awesome if someone created another one.

Because after he spent weeks making that someone could edit it and take it as it's own which isn't true since _Undefined create it.
Personally I liked the mega thread, but only when people actually applied the proper format to their job request and edited their posts when the jobs were taken/completed.
For one it's a pretty simple layout and also everyone would know who started it

Is it better to fuck us up?
He just pulled an overv, never fear.
Well, he got about 10k worth of scripts out of hosting it. Interesting that he's not continuing.
Is it better to fuck us up?
Yes. I'm pretty sure he had his reasons to close it and I am not the only one that understand him why he doesn't want to give the code.
I am setting up a place holder until someone comes up with a good site, i'll hopefully have everything configured by tomorrow.
When he comes online on steam I'll ask him if I can maintain it temporarily.
