i really want to learn lua but i prefer to have a voice tutorial rather than all these webpages and someone to talk to if i go wrong because i cant seem to figure out these tutorials online and i would love it if someone would help me, explain things to me
If you want to become a programmer, learn to read from webpages, no one is gonna read all of the documentation for you, get used to it.
i know, but to give me a little boost, explain it a bit
i know, but to give me a little boost, explain it a bit
Wait till code_gs comes in with his link, it provides allot of info. You also want to add this guy, he tutors people for free and is really helpful for the newbies, however many developers here seem to despise his teaching methods. I suggest for learning, start by cheating on darkrp servers with sv_allowcslua 1, or in singleplayer, download addons and try to exploit them (so learn how they work, and how you can use it to your advantage), update old addons, stick around the WAYWO, allot of the times people will provide source for their projects, if they don't, sometimes if you just ask them nicely they will give you source, unless it's for coderhire.
Thanks
It isn't so much the "teaching methods", they don't like my coding standards: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/26074909/tutoring/_tutorial_quizzes/_coding_standards.lua.html But, as it says in the link: When you go out into the world, different companies will have different coding standards that must be complied with. Additionally, if you work on any project, you'll want to adhere to the coding standards in place; if there are no coding standards, write up a document which outlines what and how the code is currently being written ( at least in most places ) and distribute it so people that join the project can have some standard to work with. I also mention that my coding standard will NOT be the ONLY one in the class I'm developing. It is structured in such a way that different coding standards will be used for different "assignments". People may submit their own style "answer / solution" which will be added as an alternate solution to show that the same "solution code" can be written with different styles. As I'm starting out with assignments, I start by using two to three coding standards. Eventually ALL assignments will be available with ALL coding standards so that the user can pick and choose what they like; however it is a fantastic skill to list on a resume that you're able to quickly and painlessly adapt to any coding-standard a company may throw at you, or to identify and adhere to a standard being used in a project; and this is why I'm doing things this way. Also, a solution won't look just one way, there are an almost limitless way of coding solutions for problem-sets. There will be multiple solutions posted per assignment, and each solution will have all coding standards to view. If a solution is submitted that is SLOW, or not ideal, it'll still be accepted but notes will be added to the top of the file to give information about the cost/speed of the algorithm( s ) contained within. If people don't see mistakes being made ( with proper discussion as to why they're bad ) then the user will quite possibly end up making them. I want to help prepare people in critical thinking, seamless adaptation, identifying patterns, etc..
