Untitled - The gamemode by the community, for the community

Shiiiittt, cant change the title!
The Story
About 4-5 months ago, I was creating a gamemode called GPB: Reloaded, a play on words for the popular steam game, APB: Reloaded. I got started on development, posted it in WAYWO etc. About 3 days after it began, I dropped the project due to things not working. Today in the shower (because thats where all good ideas come from), I thought back to the gamemode, and wonder if the community could contribute to it, making modules etc. Doing this will tag it as a "Community Gamemode". Then I thought, If its going to be a community gamemode, why not let the community create a new gamemode, completley by them. So then, I decided to post a facepunch thread, informing people about this project.
In-case you don't want to read all that; here's a summary,
I have an idea that all facepunch members could work together to create a gamemode.
How its gonna work
The community will choose all the different aspects of the gamemode, like title, what its about, the content, etc. All the stats will be listed below.
Once that is all sorted, community coders will start producing modules to bring the gamemode to life.
Current Stats
Title: Untitled
Aim/What its about: Not Defined
Content: No installed content
Contributors: Lost track of contributors, so https://github.com/exploderguy/Untitled/graphs/contributors
Rules
- The gamemode will not be another role-play gamemode
- Don't be an asshole.
Directory Tree
cbf doing a directory tree.
Q/A
Q: Why are you doing this?
A: It is more or less an experiment, to see how fp'ers will react
Q: Why would we help you create this gamemode. Nobody will do it for you without payment.
A: This gamemode is not for me, as I said above, its for everyone. I am at the same level of power in this project as you are.
Q: You are not going to find coders on facepunch, goto scriptfodder.
A: As previously stated, its not for me, its for the community. I am not " looking for coders ".
How do I contribute?
https://github.com/exploderguy/Untitled/
Just fork the bloody gamemode.
Conclusion
I really hope this goes ahead, and you guys don't trash the idea. Post below your suggestions and any changes.
The problem with "the community", is that it's very difficult to get large groups to agree on something. Without base ground rules set out, unless "everyone" agrees on an idea or every little thing is put to a poll, it will be very difficult for the project to go anywhere.
Let's make a gamemode about a nobody trying to get strangers to spend their time working for him without pay.

Anybody good with NPCs?
Many people have different coding styles, and they may not agree on final product. And Ott's right, you're gonna have a hard time finding coders. If they wanted to do a project like this, they'd do it, but not like you're proposing.
Im not " finding coders ", i just thought it'll be a good idea just for the gmod community to all work on something. I wont be taking any major credit. If you contribute, we will all be listed equally.
Also, is it a law to be payed when you create something?

edited the OP, story edited and much clearer.

lets let the entire community collaborate on a gamemode

Gigantic buggy train wreck: the gamemode
Hello facepunch. The title Untitled will change, depending on what the gamemode will turn out.
You cant change the title. :v:
keep the name as Untitled.
You cant change the title. :v:
Whaaaatt! Why did they change that? I remember being able to before?

Make a github, each person only gets to create one lua file in the game mode each, after a while run the game mode and see how it goes
For even more fun, you aren't allowed to look at the other lua files.
The lua file you get will be shared and auto included.

I think this should actually be done, and then we put the gamemode on workshop.

It couldn't be much worse than most of the stuff you find on the workshop.
I actually really love the idea of the FP/Gmod community contributing to one gamemode. Unfortunately, since there's so many of us, it'd probably be a huge clusterfuck and really hard to manage
I would like my contribution to be somehow pug based however

This is how the ' modules ' system comes into play.
theres 2 options on how the modules would work;
Option A. I set up a some sort of GitHub with permissions, where people can make directorys, but wont be able to touch others. The benifit of this would be, the contributors can look how other people have done things, to make their shit not break.
Option B. You would post a download to your module ( here on fp), i will download and install it.
Do you think you should be the one hosting this project? :zoid:
Do you think you should be the one hosting this project? :zoid:
Yeah, why not?
Someone's going to GPL their code.
Someone's going to GPL their code.
does that matter if they choose to submit it on github?
Someone's going to GPL their code.
Should it matter if the gamemode is going to be free? I think ill have to create a terms and conditions or something so we can limt the assholes.

That sounds hilarious. I've been toying with the idea of making some kind of bastardized variant of DarkRP where players can write code which is run in a sandbox or a VM. Only problem is, making a sandbox or a VM is a pain.
If revitalizing the community is your plan, it might be cool to host a weekly event where you play some less popular gamemodes.

Let's actually do this. Someone make a GitHub for it, and we can all just fork it, and throw in really shitty code. I promise I won't detour the math library to make everything return 20...

I don't know about it becoming a clusterfuck, as Cataclysm DDA has had 300+ contributors and it's not really a clusterfuck.

We'll fork DarkRP, start editing core files and use upper camel case.

Each individual contributor should use their own variable styles, to make it a real mess.
Alright, im glad we've got all the negativity out of the way, what would this gamemode be about? Will it be multiplayer? Singleplayer? A "gun game" type gamemode? Or maybe it doesnt have to do with guns?
i was thinking maybe a single player story gamemode, because you dont see them around here..
Clone SS13 /s
Edit: In all seriousness, it could just be a stupidly complex RP gamemode in SS13 fashion.
It should be written from scratch while using snippets from various things. I'm interested in the SS13 idea
make everything quicktime events

including walking
I have created a GitHub Repository, with the blank gamemode files in it.
