• The best way to learn to make particles?

I really want to learn to make particles because I want to improve the quality of my addons. I'm not quite sure how to make them and make them high quality. I decided to come here, so you guys can help me get on the right track. Whether it's Lua based or pcf files, I would love to learn to make either. Thanks in advance!
From what I've heard, particles are tricky to understand, but if you know what you're doing, they're probably easy enough to make. Something that might help is this video from quite a while ago. If you play around in the SFM particle editor for a while you'll probably be able to make or find out something you like. I'm pretty sure the SFM particle editor is the best option tool-wise for what to use. It seems to be able to open gmod's particles, as well as particles from all other source games, as well as save them.
